Fall 2009 Columbia Transfer WAIT LIST students

apparently I’m on an extended waitlist…

if I accept they’ll let me know by july 15th… extended waitlist… never knew there was such a thing…

i just got an email saying this:

Dear XYZ,

In my prior correspondence, I promised you more news concerning your candidacy for Columbia University. As things now stand, we have filled our transfer class and cannot be sure that we will have places to offer any more students.

We would like to offer you a place on an extended waitlist for any additional openings that might still occur. Of course, there are no guarantees that there will be any movement, but we are offering you the option of holding on just a little longer. We will notify you of your final status no later than July 15, 2009.

Please let us know your preference by June 19, 2009, by replying to ugrad-confirm@columbia.edu and using the form below.

We send our best wishes and our thanks for your longstanding interest in Columbia.

Sincerely,

Jessica Marinaccio
Dean of Undergraduate Admissions

arrghhhhh this wait is killing me. i need to know already. did anyone else get this?

yeah I did… see my post above yours

Does anyone know what the chances are for the extended waitlist??

I got on the extended waitlist too. I read through the e-mail, and I was like, what the hell? What school has an extended waitlist?

heh, but congratulations Ice & Snappy! At least we still haven’t been rejected yet. Did you guys send any additional information to Columbia after being waitlisted the first time? I was about to, but I kept procrastinating and ended up never getting to it. Maybe I’ll do it this time.

To be honest thought, I don’t know if it’s worth pursuing this additional waitlist if I already got into Wharton. It WOULD be nice to say that I got into Columbia, and I think I actually will give it some thought if I am admitted.

BTW, adding to the first few posts in this thread:

I just finished my Freshman year at Cornell. I had a 3.81 first semester and brought it up to a 4.07 2nd semester, 3.93 cumulative.

I’m on the extended waitlist too, it’s rather irritating that they’re stringing us along like this.

hey yeah, I sent in a supplementary letter, but that’s about it really.

did basically everyone on the waitlist just get bumped over to the exntended waitlist? that’d be a little disheartening if that’s the case…

^Good question. Also, I haven’t looked at any other threads yet, but was anybody even admitted from the first waitlist?

^^
I doubt it because they said “we have filled our transfer class”
This is BS… Just tell me I didn’t get in already!!

Hey all,

It does seem the case that we were all shuttled off to the extended waitlist. I would actually be surprised if anybody got off the original transfer waitlist, because I sent them supplementary materials and called a lot. This sucks guys - I extended my deposit deadline until around now but knowing that we may not hear anything for another MONTH; I must move forward with administrative college stuff :frowning: Deposit, housing, placement tests, etc…

I didn’t apply to many schools, so I am transferring to USC if Columbia doesn’t work out. It’s hard to remain optimistic in the case of such uncertainty (a front desk person @ the Ugrad Admissions Office told me that the only way openings would occur was through unforeseen circumstances… you know the deal) but we can bear through it. In any case, I am glad you all have wonderful back up options :)

Hey,

I know it might be hard to believe, but we might actually not all have been put on the extended waitlist… I called today, and what I found out was, apparently this IS done every year (gross), but I did also ask if everyone who was on the waitlist was just moved over to the extended waitlist, and they said “well, no, not everyone.” Whether this means that some people were accepted or some were rejected, I’m not sure, but I guess we’ll find out. I’m going to go through with my deposits to my current school, but I’m not giving up on Columbia yet. Guess only time will tell… GL to the rest of you too!

BUMP>

I am bringing this thread back to life!

Any word on anything at all?

I am going to call these people.

Will let you know what happens

Did any of you guys get some sort of confirmation after accepting a spot on the extended waitlist?

I didn’t get a confirmation. I called to confirm and they told me I was fine. shrugs

Heh, alright.
Well once again, best of luck to everyone!

FINALLY

I’m actually kind of relieved… I wasn’t exactly actively trying to evacuate my current school (applied only 2 places). I have a lot of friends at my current school and if I just stick to my original major, it’s comparable to Columbia anyways
U of R welcomes me back with open arms :D
