Fall 2011 Admission Decisions

Good times HJ!

Sorry you had to put up with my stupidity on here HelloJan. You’ve always been really, really helpful. So thanks!

Any good news today?

james!! the UCLA decisions are out!! go check here:

https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Decision/Login.aspx

Liz, did you get an acceptance from UCLA? If so, does this now mean that you have a tough decision to make? Or are you Columbia-bound without a doubt?

Sorry, just curious
There are worse decisions one could be faced with, right?

Got my Storybook invite just now

YES i was accepted today! very excited! and yes now i have a decision on my hands. but there are worse decisions to have to make i suppose ; )

i got the storybook invite too, Bax!

One good thing on Storybook I noticed for all those that are waiting is that a lot of the people that are joining so far are Post-Bac Pre-Med.

Storybookin’ it up. Good luck to everyone still in limbo!

Last Tuesday a ton of you guys got phone calls. Hopefully this Tuesday the rest of us receive some good news!

Can any of you who’ve been admitted access your financial aid info yet?

Also, can anyone confirm that at this stage in the EA process, people still get admitted?

I’ve sort of moved on at this point, as GS is getting in the way of my final essays/projects/finals coming up lol

For all those admitted - goodluck and congrads!

No financial aid info at all yet :(

they said they would send us our financial aid info in a few weeks i believe…

I hope there is an appeal committee for Columbia. I was rejected by a reputable institution last week. They just emailed me today to let me know :

"According to “x” you were not admitted to “X” because you did not meet the minimum GPA required. This GPA was based on a combination of all prior colleges attended.

However, since you have an excellent GPA at “X” your application is being submitted to the Admissions Appeal Committee for review. We believe this review would have a favorable outcome. You should be receiving an official email from the school within two weeks."

I think I know why I am taking such a long time for feedback from Columbia now, I think my cumulative GPA is killing me, since like 7 years ago I took college courses and screwed all my grades up taking remedial classes of all things. I didnt think that was going to be an issue since all the courses I took were classes in “pre-algebra”, remedial english…, and alot of useless courses…yea I sucked it up pretty bad back then. I thought my recent EC’s and recent rigorous course load in honors science, Calc III, econ, and chem was supposed to be the GPA upward trend worth drooling over. Especially after taking over 22 credits last semester with three analytical courses and acing every single class… I guess not…

I cant help but be bitter over the whole situation.

@Random, Don’t be bitter :frowning: , I think that GS is different than the school that has you on second review, because they focus on the latter growth. That is why GS is different. It’s all about what you’ve learned since then, and what you’ve done academically and in your community since then, also how good you did on the GSAE or SAT/ACT if you took it recently, which will demonstrate your academic rigor. Acing 22credits of CALCIII, chem, and other analytical courses shows that you have grown a lot, academically and as an individual. I think if you explained the contrast well in your essay, they will see the bigger picture, and grant you the acceptance you deserve. Not everyone can take 22 credits and Ace all of them, so you definitely got something in you…so in the words of buzz lightyear “never give up, never surrender!“ :D

Good Morning Forumers!
Today is a new, warm day, in cloudy NJ
I have a feeling that we will be getting some feedback today. As raptor pointed out, Tuesdays tend to be a good day for answers:)

How about we play some GS-JEOPARDY? To see if we future GSer’s know enough about our future school  hehe

Who was the sculptor for the Alma Mater sitting in Morningside campus & in what year was she placed in Morningside?

tick - tock - tick - tock …lol :D

Daniel Chester. 1903 ;p

10 points!! lol… You forgot to throw back a question…lol! gotta keep the chain…:D

It’s 10am…when will the phone calls start pouring in hmm?

No rejection today woo hoo

When do they send rejections? Does anyone know if the tracking application option change as soon as they make a decision?
