Fall 2011 Admission Decisions

Katie,

Did you ever have an interview? Were you an ED applicant that was asked for spring grades?

I saw a lot of science/bio/premed majors at APS, even if they aren’t as represented here. Not much pure math, I feel like that’s a more traditional sort of field - if you’re interested in and like pure math I imagine you’d be more attracted to a traditional academic situation.

AH! The anxiety is building up again, LOL. I run also and I cant seem to get it off my mind. Please hurry GS Adcoms! :D

Hello,

Yes, I was an ED applicant. I’m an international student, currently enrolled in a two year college. I didn’t hear from Columbia at all until last week, when I got an email from admissions commitee asking about what grades I expected to get in this term, they didn’t even want official grades but just asked about my expectations, it was a really nice e-mail that gave me hope…

So I replied, and after around a week, I got a missed call and e-mail saying that I was accepted. I also already got my package today ( I live 40 min away from Columbia… :D).

So as you see, I didn’t have an interview, just a long wait… But it was worth it
I wish you all good luck and see you there soon! :)

Wow, thats great Katie, I hope to have some type of response by next week, I am so lucky to even have lasted this long in the process.

is an in person inteview a bad thing guys? i was regular admission… and was asked to be interviewed in person… does this usually mean i am rejected? who did in person interviews? what kinds of things did they ask?

An interview is not a sign of rejection, necessarily. It means that they’re unsure, and they want more information. If they didn’t think you were a possible candidate they’d reject you entirely.

Hey ummzeez, good luck let me know what kind of questions they ask you.

I actually recently had an interview:

If you’ve ever been to a job interview, its very similar - except the position available is at columbia as an undergraduate student. I’d definitely re-read your essays and evaluate why Columbia, why your major, and how dedicated you are to the program.

Goodluck and congrads to everyone!

I turned in my application May 27th. How long does it take to hear back? I was accepted to USC and I am suppose to give them an answer asap. I don’t want to miss the opportunity at USC by just waiting for Columbia. They said four weeks after I turned it in but is that accurate?

I submitted my part II on June 1st and although my high school transcript was sent earlier, Columbia did not receive it until yesterday (June 16th). Do you think my app is in late and it would lower my chances since GS is based on rolling?

no not at all. you are in the clear.

@scouevas, If I were you, I would pay the enrollment deposit to USC first. I turned in my Columbia app on the April 1st, but only hear from them after June.

Good idea. Buy some insurance.

I got into GS as a transfer (the news came a while ago though, at the end of April). I was kept busy by the finals afterwards and just discovered this thread! I’ve learned a lot by reading that gigantic “gs vs cc” thread before making the decision to transfer, and the posts about phone interviews also helped me tremendously. I want to thank all of you guys that’re contributing to this great forum, and I look forward to seeing many of you in the coming fall!

@wwwlk18: Have you been to the APS yet?

@baxter2211: Not yet. I have international education background and have to take an English exam before the APS. I’ll probably go to the one in late July.
How about you?

Lemme give you guys a bit of my story. I submitted everything except my college transcript before the June 1 deadline. I called to verify whether it would be okay for me to submit it after June 1 and, as it turned out, it was. I was subsequently able to submit my transcript but another problem presented itself - Something went wrong with CollegeBoard sending my SAT score report. That issue was then resolved after me stressing myself out over it. Only upon tracking the status of my application today did I realize that most everything was processed (not everything) and/or received. I’m going to keep checking, though. I must say that I am quite confident…cautiously optimistic is more like it. Who am I kidding? I’m forcing myself to believe that it’s all good. Arrghhhh! Congratulations to all those who were accepted and I wish you continued success. I’m hoping to get some good news…and soon.

Has anyone who submitted for June 1st deadline heard anything yet? Like interview or any other correspondence?

I had my interview yesterday. Good Luck everyone~!
