Fall 2011 Admission Decisions

I got the call today. I got accepted!!! Roar lion roar!

Did they just call? Congratulations!

They called at about 10:30 Am my time. I am in California.

Congratulations! A lot of people on this forum seem to have been accepted. The majority, in fact. I hope I’m a part of the bunch.

Are there any international students on this forum who took out loans to finance their education @ GS? It is something that I am willing to do but I’m curious as to whether anyone has any regrets after taking loans…
(in light of the less than spectacular financial aid)

Yeah it seems like everyone does get accepted.

Isn’t the acceptance rate supposed to be around 25%, or are we all brilliant?

23%

I was just saying earlier that I have yet to see the quintessential “GS” story here on the site. I’ve seen some great stats, but not anyone with a GED, first time going to college, etc. Anybody out there?

First time going to college. Blue collar background (construction, driver, warehouse, labor, carpentry, etc.)

@Patrick312: collegeconfidential tends to be a place that the more intense applicants flock to. People who aren’t the right caliber and get rejected are more likely to be people who also don’t feel the urge to seek more information and consultation online. Just remember that this forum is completely unrepresentative of the greater applicant pool.

To add to Coma’s point. GS receives around 1500-2000 applications in the fall. The number of people accepted with regards to this forum is minimal when looking at the overall number of applications.

As Coma pointed out, this site tends to attract a more qualified pool of applicants.

@ComaPrison Hey! That makes me feel much more hopeful about my own app. Still haven’t heard a thing and I’m counting the days.

@MoonandStars yes alot of people have been accepted. At the same time, keep in mind that the ones who werent accepted will not post that they werent. Only the few and far between will state their misfortunes. I know if I wasnt accepted that I wouldnt even bother coming back to this forum to mention anything. If I was still in highschool, I would be more likely to post since the college confidential community is really meant for mostly highschool students and therefore there is more of a secondary school “community” to cheer you up when you are down kind of thing. On the other hand, grown adults are less likely to admit failure, and there is less of a community on this GS forum than compared to other institutional threads.

There was also a record number or applicants this year as well, and there are probably 100 people at best, that come on this forum.

Just wait till GS switches to the common app, 10% acceptance rates are just around he corner!

This was a joke by the way, as GS will never make his switch.

My guess is that it will get to, and stay at around the 15-20% range.

Just being on campus and meeting many GS students, the age and ethos of those that are enrolling recently seems to be changing. New GS students, as a whole, seem to be younger and have more of the archetypal “stats.” The average age of GS students has dropped these past few years, and it seems to be a continuing trend.

As people become more cognizant of GS, and they will, the admit rate will keep dropping, as it has been.

Those are really greats points you made, ComaPrison. @ RandomAdmit, I agree and thank you for your response.

Well, if they ever get around to better financial aid packages…

I finally got in touch with Ivonne. She was super nice!!! Looks like you guys were right – I got accepted! Congrats to all!

Waiting patiently for my package as it was sent non-FedEx to my PO Box.

Congrats!!! I’m surprised they sent it regular mail.

I have a GED, although perhaps not some of the rest of the stereotypical “GS Story.” I’m not going to yell about it though, and I don’t really feel the need to “chance” or whatever. I think that’s partially an age thing. As a GS applicant you understand that your situation is more unique.

I do agree it seems like everyone on CC gets accepted, but I assume rejections are mailed out much later and when they arrived not discussed much. (e.g. I didn’t post to the schools that rejected me, only two of the ones that accepted me).

I didn’t mean to insult anyone by saying the “GS story” or anything of the sort. More or less, I was referring to the caliber of talent I’ve seen on this site which has been further discussed already.

Personally, I think it’s too bad more people of all types don’t come and post their stats either way. It’d be nice to have a better representation of the applicant pool, but I realize you can’t have it all. It’s been nice to have somewhere to go, period.

Again, congrats to all who’ve been accepted and good luck to all who are still waiting.

To those of you who continue to visit the site simply to answer questions, thank you.

Agreed. Thank you to all those who take the time to allay our fears and continue to encourage us, especially at a time when some of us anxiously await a decision. I keep having dreams about my current school…I’m at a point where I can’t pretend that I’m OK anymore. I am simply a nervous wreck!!!
