Fall 2011 - Spring 2012 Housing Lottery #

Apartment cutoffs:

Number of 4-person groups who applied: 794
Number of Available Apartments: 548
Lowest Eligible Lottery Number: 3
Highest Eligible Lottery Number: 1742

Question for anyone who knows: if for some reason when I apply for apartments, there is nothing but Cook apartments left, can I decline and instead apply for doubles or do I have to take an apartment now that I’m in the “selected” group?

^ i’m pretty sure you can decline. it is not a binding agreement until you physically pick the room you want.

wow there are only that many apartments? i always thought there were more…i’m glad i got in then lol

just a couple questions:
so if you’re eligible, that guarantees your group an apartment? just wanted to check.
is there a difference in quality between the busch and cook apartments?

From the Rutgers website:

“Please note: The housing agreement is not binding until you select your space.”

If you are eligible, your group should be able to select an apartment.

rualum:

where did you get the numbers for apartments? is that for Fall 2011-Spring 2012?

The numbers where on housing.rutgers.edu for those who applied for apartments.

Ehh. My number is near the higher end of the eligibility numbers, but i’m glad i made it.

How do you see the lottery #? I just sent in my housing app because I’ll be a first year freshman

Freshman aren’t in the lottery. You’ll get your housing assignment in August.

Ohh okay thanks. So if I just sent in the housing app should I get college ave since it was my first pick?

When did the housing app come out? If you sent it in right away chances are good that you will get your first choice.

I’m pretty sure they let people with lower numbers pick first.

darksonic the freshman housing application is different than the lottery.

freshman must submit a housing application; those who get theirs in early have a better chance of getting their first choice of campus. The lottery (for upperclassman) is when your lower number determines your pick choice once you have made a certain cutoff. Then you can actually choose your housing (based on making the cutoff for a certain housing, say doubles or apartments) sooner based on having a lower number.

Lottery notes: initial apartment cutoff (~1700) went to at least over 2000. Richardson filled up first, by around 2pm of 3rd day of general picks.

All Busch apartments were filled under lottery number 2000, by around 4pm 3rd day of general picks.

Rockoff, Newell, Starkey apartments were left after 2000.

Surprised that Rockoff did not fill earlier.

Please post final cutoff number if you hear of it for future reference.

Does Richardson go first because the apartments are nicest or because of location? They look pretty dated from the outside.

jerseygirl I’m pretty sure it’s due to location. Engineering and pharmacy majors, especially, like to live on Busch because they have a full class schedule and most of their classes will be on Busch by the third year.

I think engineers/pharmacy like Richardson becuase it is near to the SciMed library and you can walk to most of your classes easily.

Cook campus is really nice but you need an earlier start if you need to get to early morning classes on Busch. There are no apartments on Livingston.

lol this is definitely why

This may seem like a dumb question lol, but where is the housing application? I want to apply for housing as an incoming freshmen, but I can’t find a link on their housing website?

jazz try looking for the link on your enrollment pathway.

What was the doubles cutoff? Someone must know.

Number of students who applied for doubles: 1845
Number of Available spaces (also # of students invited to select): 1786
Lowest Eligible Lottery Number: 4
Highest Eligible Lottery Number: 9805*
Number of students ineligible to select: 60
