Hi all. It's DreamingBig.
I have a question about possibly transferring into Penn for the Fall 2011 semester.
Do you think it'd be possible for me? Schools like Penn and Princeton have always been dream schools for me.

I'm a 20 year old Hispanic American male.
I'm an English major.
In HS I did fairly well, not great. 3.4 UW GPA, 1900 SATs (Reading-600, Math- 580, Writing-720), Did not take SAT Subject Tests
2 AP Classes (English, Government), got a 3 on both exams
ECs: Pretty good

Now in college, I've tried to do the best I possibly could so I could someday transfer into an elite school.
I first attended a tier 1 liberal arts school in NY for my freshman year. I had a 3.6 cum. GPA
I then transferred to a local community college after incurring over $20,000 in loans from my first school and being unable to return. (I come from an impoverished family)
At my community college, the first semester I had a 3.68 GPA (I got a B- in General Chemistry, thought I'd challenge myself)
This semester, I have a 4.0 GPA.

I was recently rejected for transfer admission to Vanderbilt so I figure the other schools I applied to (Penn, Northwestern, Cornell, Brown) will likewise reject me.

I registered for classes at my community college for next semester
I'm taking:
EN 209 Introduction to Children's Literature
EN 210 Development of the American Novel
EN 212 Introduction to Hispanic-American Literature
HI 201 U.S. History
HI 220 Intro to African American Civilizations

Then my Spring 2011 schedule should also include all 200 level classes (the highest offered at my community college)

Right now, I have 59 credits and a 3.73 GPA (or so I calculated). By the end of next year, I'll have 89 credits. I'm really determined to get a 4.0 both semesters.
I also think this year my transfer essay might have been weak as it was a sympathy essay and was only 1 page and a half long. Next year I'll be sure to write a much stronger essay. And I'm going to become more active and join even more clubs at my school.

Do you think after next year, I'll stand a good chance to finally get into one of my dream schools? Penn College of Arts and Sciences especially.
