@ jmlstern I did call the office and they said I could only have my credits evaluated at the APS. That’s not until June 26th! I just can’t imagine how they expect me to decide when I have no clue what the time frame to graduation will be or what kind of financial aid will be made available. If going to Columbia would add years onto my graduation goal, I would rather pass, finish at Drew, and then do grad school at Columbia. I know it may sound a little deluded to assume I would get in again, but I am just leery of going to Columbia at any cost and for any amount of time necessary because “it’s an opportunity you cannot pass on” as my professors say. I will get an estimated financial aid value next Friday and then I will be able to make a more confident evaluation of whether Columbia is the right fit.

@jmlstern: Yep, I have my UNI and sent in the deposit and acceptance reply form about two weeks ago. I sent an email to request an invite to Storybook and got an auto-response stating that they were extremely busy. I’ll wait patiently for the invite. :)

It seemed like this wait would never end, and now that it is approaching its end, I am starting to seriously doubt my chances of getting in. I turned in my application on March 1st. Has anyone gotten in when they turned it in on the last day?

Hello everyone!

I’ve applied to GS as an international student and I’m really, really anxious about the results. I’ve seen that some of you have already received you’re admission results.

However, as you may understand statistics for international admissions are very hard to find on the internet (in fact I haven’t seen one single thread in forums or any kind of fact sheets concerning international admissions). Therefore I would like to know if there are any international applicants here with whom I can share my background and CV and see if I have any chances of getting in.

I’m applying to a Bachelor in Economics and I already have a BA in Political Science and I’m doing a Master in Applied Statistics.

Can someone halp me?

It looks like they haven’t setup storybook for the new semester yet, so it may be a while longer before that’s good to go.

Marlon - assuming you did reasonably well in your BA and MA(MS?), and wrote a compelling essay, I would imagine you’ve got a pretty solid shot. I think a lot of it would hinge on whether you present a compelling case for why you want another degree.

sbmoody and others wondering about transfer credits - GS tends to be fairly reasonable about it. They’ll take most classes that aren’t strictly pre-professional/vocational, and are 1000 level or above. You can sometimes end up in a situation where GS will accept a class, but it won’t count toward your major or the core (eg you’ve taken an art history class, but on review they won’t waive the ArtHum requirement). Then it will just be a general elective, toward the 124 overall credits you need to graduate. It does cap out at 60 credits though.

Hello Campaigner,

Well I finished as the best student of my school (in High School), earning a prize for that purpose, and I finished in the top 10% of my class in my BA. But, on the other hand, I’m from Portugal, and I don’t think that Americans have a very good opinion about Portuguese education (neither do we :P). I also went to Pharmacy College for one year, before doing my BA and I didn’t had very good grade (I dropped out of college 'cause i freaking hated it), and I think they will assume that as something terrible.

Erm, I dunno, probably i’m just freaking out about nothing, but I have panic of receiving a rejection letter.

Got the call yesterday, man I’m glad that’s over. Out of the Navy in August, Columbia in September. Can’t wait.

To those of you who are still waiting, there is still plenty of April left. Don’t get discouraged!!

Got into UCLA still waiting on Columbia. I take it Gs is a lot more competitive than I thought :/

Hi all!

I also found out on the 17th – I was so shocked when I got my packet in the mail. I found out I got into UCLA as well today, but I already mailed in my tuition deposit for Columbia. I didn’t need much time to think it over! I was not at all expecting to get into Columbia. I sort of applied just for the hell of it. This opportunity feels too good to be true, but I’ll take it. :)

My GPA at my current community college (representing three years of being a full time student, and almost 90 credits) is 3.87, but if you include other courses I took several years ago at other schools, that brings my GPA to about a 3.65. I guess they liked my essay – I just wrote about why I was a nontraditional student and explained the circumstances of my family life, which forced me to drop out of high school and return to community college several years later. I also talked a bit about why Columbia would be the best for my major (Art History). Because I never took the SATs, I took their GS exam in the fall.

I am nervous about moving and leaving my life in LA and my amazing friends, but this feels like too good a chance to miss. For a high school dropout, Columbia ain’t shabby… :)

Congrats Olivia!

Thank you, and congratulations on UCLA!! :)

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! Here’s a little video to infuse you with some school spirit! Learn the lyrics, as we sing it at every home game.

Best of luck to those still awaiting a decision.

I have a question! If I get admitted will they mind if I drop one of my current classes at community college?

One of my favorite Columbia videos:

[Columbia: An Introduction (Full length film) - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Great vid Fox!
And…Cali, I’m not sure but I know my CC adviser said Ws are never good, but if you’re already in…I know admission recensions happen, but they are rare. I’ve only heard of one, from Georgia Tech but the friend in question completely checked out, dropped 3 classes and got a “C” and “D” in two others. So if your about to get a “B” or even one “C” I wouldn’t worry too much. That being said, Campaigner or Random! This is your ball field.

love that video and thanks for all of the good info campaigner, it’s been a week or so since i’ve checked b/c of exams…

Just sent in my deposit, what would be helpful to know or rather should I expect now in terms of their communication with me/UNI etc in preparation other than housing, APS etc which i’ve alrdy registered for.?

There won’t be a lot of communication at this point. They rely pretty heavily on the APS for communicating the information. You’ll also get an email with a housing offer, and a physical letter with your financial aid package.

You should also get a storybook invite soon (probably delayed since graduation just got moved, I imagine everyone in student life is freaking out about that now), where you can ask more questions.

You can look up your UNI in a week or two by checking the directory (literally go to columbia.edu and type your name into the search box). From there you can activate it, upload a photo for your ID in the fall, check out your email (even set it to forward to gmail), log into SSOL, etc. You can start signing up for student discounts (AT&T gives you 20% off), etc once you have that @columbia.edu address, too. None of that is too important, but if you want to feel more comfortable feel free.

Got my acceptance package today, a real load off my mind. I may just see you all in the fall :)
