GS Spring 2012 Applicants

I know its probably early, but I figured I'd have a go at it and assess my competition ; )

Let us know your age, if you are applying early or regular decision, your intended field of story, current institution attending if any, and plans for financing your education.

I'll start:

24
Early Decision
Biology
BMCC (cuny college)
financing probably some combination of federal and private loans, weight moreso on private, although I hear GS has good merit based scholarships as you progress in years?

Bump…Any early-action applicants receive notice yet? It’s been a week since they supposedly began sending out acceptances.

I imagine some will receive them soon. The Academic Planning Sessions are scheduled with the first on Oct 25, so they think they apparently expect some people will be accepted and in by then.

Just remember that it’s not really a sign either way if you haven’t heard. Some people in the fall didn’t get in until August!

Thanks for the encouragement; everyday I wait seems like a regular week. I’ve never wanted to skip a month of my life before…on the bright side, looks like I’ll be the sole applicant so I like my chances, lol.

i am an international applicant for spring 2012. i finished my application in aug 15. can’t wait anymore! urgh…
any international applicants receive notice yet?

I was accepted early decision, received a call from admissions this morning. In a pretty great mood right now/trying not to think of how I’ll afford tuition.

My stats:

Age: 24
Major: Psychology
Previous college: UT El Paso (6 credits), Schoolcraft College Fire Academy (20 credits), EMT and Paramedic programs (certification only.)
Previous work: Firefighter/Paramedic, city of El Paso, TX (2 years) prior to that volunteer firefighter/full time paramedic student back home in Michigan
Financing: I didn’t expect to get in, so I’ll have to get back to you guys on this one…
ACT/SAT: Above average, not amazing (1360 SAT, 26 ACT)
High school: nothing amazing, 3.2 or so GPA, no AP credit

Congrats man. Take it all in before the semester :). What was your gpa?

And when did you submit your application?

congrats!! CKLIM !!

thanks a lot guys, still sort of in a happy state of shock about the whole thing. I submitted the app back in June. It took until late July for them to get all my transcripts etc. My GPA at UTEP was a 4.0, but I only took two freshman level classes. I can’t remember my GPA at the community college fire academy, but I was the valedictorian. good luck to everyone, hope to see you all in the spring.

Congrats Cklim! That’s awesome.

Okay, after months of waiting in anticipation of some response, today I received an email from Ivonne requesting a PHONE INTERVIEW for tomorrow at 1…

Is this is a good sign or am I on the cusp of rejection? I am in a frenzy thinking about the implications. I’m not concerned about the interview itself but moreso of whether this is a positive or negative sign.

Someone please help

it’s defitnately a positive sign. good luck!!

Yeah so I spoke with Ivonne and while she was a very nice lady, I came away with an uneasy feeling. Several questions inquired on my previous academic under-performance in highschool and my first college. I tried to elaborate as honest and well as I could given the topics, but the overall tone of the questions was negative…I don’t think this bodes well for me, and she told me a decision would be made within two weeks. Does anyone else have experience with these type of “clarification” interviews and what they potentially mean? I came away a little befuddled also because the points asked were addressed in my essay. Sigh, oh well.

Does anyone have any helpful perspective on or interpretation of this?

iggs - I only know that some people got in, others did not, after calls. They definitely reject plenty of people without the call, so take it as positive that they were interested enough to schedule the phone call.

On a side note, I’ll be one of the students at the meet and greet next week (11/1), so say hi!

Thanks for the encouragement…more waiting in store for me  I will be sure to attend a meet and greet should I be accepted :)

thank god…i m in!

Well done! Congratulations.

Dissimilarly, I feel a wave of discouragement permeating over me. Historically, reading about past acceptances, those who have been interviewed receive positive notice within 3-4 business days of the interview. Today is the lapse of the third day, and I spent it in anticipation of some kind of news which, disappointingly, I did not get. I gave myself a mental time frame that if there is no news by Wednesday, my chances have expired. Pretty depressing…
