Applied only to two schools for transfer and I was also accepted to NYU Gallatin; turned it down because–duh–this is COLUMBIA. I might have chosen NYU had Columbia taken far fewer credits, but they took about the same amount and that made the decision easy.

I think I got in because of my essay which was really strong, my interview, and the fact that I kept in touch with them and let them know what I was up to (between the time I submitted my app and the time I was notified of admissions decision).

how much is the deposit? and how long do they give you to make a decision?

also, if i am fortunate enough to gain acceptance, my decision would be heavily influenced by financial aid. is the deposit due before financial aid is given? what about information regarding special scholarships?

The deposit is $500, and they give you three weeks to notify them of your decision.

Sent out my $500 check today. See you guys in the fall!

JMLStern! By “kept in touch” … would you care to elaborate? I had an interview as well, and was asked some in depth questions about my work/college strategy if accepted. I currently work quite a lot of hours as well as attend a CC FT. I was considering following up with my interviewer because I have since further determined my strategy for a work/college balance with my employer (if accepted to Columbia). This would provide the interviewer with a more clarified answer to the question asked. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated and CONGRATS!

Wow! Congratulations to all who have gotten in! It must be a real pleasure
Sadly, I’ve lost hope at this point. It’s been more than a week since the interview and still no word. I sent a thank you email afterwards, but I didn’t get a reply so I think that’s a bad sign

@hiimafrican - hang in there, you’ll know any day now. :)

@alllday:
i followed-up by informing the admissions team of developments in my life that were relevant to the interview I had. for example:

-in my interview i discussed my passion for writing, so i wrote to them to tell them when a) i was hired as a writing consultant at my college and b) when i was hired as a rotating opinion columnist for a major newspaper.

-in my interview i discussed my passion for political discourse and so i wrote to them to tell them that i had launched a political debate website.

it wasn’t out-of-the-blue letters gushing about Columbia. in fact, i didn’t mention Columbia at all. I just kept them abreast of developments that concerned ME and that concerned issues that they had been made aware of by my interview and prior application.

Congrats to everyone who’s been accepted and to all those who haven’t or have yet to: firstly, keep your chin up–the race isn’t over! secondly, Columbia is not the end-all and be-all. there have been many success stories that didn’t emanate from Columbia, and there certainly will be more of them in the future. that said, i’m entirely thrilled to join the Columbia community.

Wondering:
Does an interview indicate that you’re borderline, and the quality of the interview will tip the scales in one direction or another?

Hi dismiss. I believe interviews are reserved for the candidates that the admissions committee likes well enough to admit. However, there are some minor questions or concerns that are keeping them from giving a sure yes. The interviewed applicant is given the opportunity to iron out any discrepancies and temper the committee’s doubts(“tip the scales”). But be assured they are interested if you have an interview. You get a chance to show them who you are, and why you are Columbia material.

So uhm, I just got a call on a private number, and …

I’M IN!
It was such a pleasant moment; I almost can’t believe it
Thanks, Fauves and everyone else who took the time to give so much information during the waiting period
Good luck to everyone still waiting. There’s still plenty of time, so don’t get discouraged just yet

Congratulations hiimafrican!! That is fantastic news! :)

So, seeing that my material was received on March 20 and that up until today I haven’t received any phone call, or I haven’t been assigned to any interview, I must begin to worry myself, right?

I mean, they could dismiss the interview, seeing that I’m on the other side of the planet, but still…

(yeah, I’m totally desperating)

@jmlstern: When you say that you have a College GPA of 3.95 is that out of 4.0 or out of 5.0?

Thanks, Fauves. I actually just received my package :)

@ marlon, All my material was received and processed by February 9th and I only recently got a decision, so don’t worry about it. I don’t think decisions go out on a first-come, first-serve basis

I’m resigned to rejection myself. My materials were all in by February 3rd and I have not heard anything back yet. Comparing my stats to the ones I’ve seen from those of you who have been accepted, I don’t think I pass muster. Not enough accomplishments to my credit. Just waiting to get the bad news in the mail. I wish they’d hurry up and tell me, like ripping a band-aid off quickly. :(

So who’s going to the June 26th aps?
