Hi Zoetang. Oh, c’mon, 95 is pretty high too. And I guess that they won’t refuse you because of that. If you had, like, 75 or something, than they would might consider not accepting you, because you could have problems at classes. But seeing that, either way, you’ll have to take the APL exam (despite having a perfect score at TOEFL), then I guess they’re not that rigid about your scores.

And thanks. Above all, a good grade at TOEFL is a matter of luck.

547 is a bit of a hike, but not too far. You’re pretty near Fairway market and the 125th St stop. I think in general it’s slightly dodgier than some other options, but you’ll still be safe as long as you maintain awareness.

It’s right near International House and the parks.

EDIT: I’m pretty sure my UW prof and a UW classmate both lived there and liked the building. If not exactly there, somewhere nearby.

Hey guys. I was recently accepted to Columbia GS. I got my financial award letter yesterday (e-mail with instructions how to log in to the website), but it doesn’t say anything about merit scholarships or special scholarships. It is only Federal Financial Aid + loans. Does it mean that they haven’t determined merit scholarships yet, since GS website says their committee meets once a year, or I got screwed? Anyone received anything merit-based or any scholarships?

Hi there. I received my award letter recently as well and got 7,500 for the 2012-2013 school year in “new student” scholarships. My planned enrollment form indicated 12 credits for both Fall and Spring. Are you planning on taking a full load? To my understanding students do not qualify for the new student scholarship is they plan to take anything less than 12 units in a semester. I hope this helps.

Hey, Fauves. Thanks for the info. I listed 13 units for Fall and 13 for Spring. So that’s not it. I wonder what it can be because from what I have gathered they award almost everyone with at least something. And my financial need is huge, so those 5-6 thousands are make it or break it for me. Did anyone else receive any scholarships guys? Thanks for your input.

I just called Financial Aid Office. They haven’t processed any of the scholarship applications yet. I am assuming you guys were early decision and they already finished it for those folks. I am a regular decision transfer. Well, I guess I won’t find out any time soon. Thanks for your reply tho.

Passer: I received the package few days after receiving the e-mail. But, then again, I’m from another country. So, I’d go with Chauncey and I’d give them a call.

Hey everyone! Got a phone call today from admissions to clarify a few things about my academic past. Just took about 10 minutes to ask a few questions about my goals and study habits. Not really sure what that means? Did anyone get a call like this? Then how long from then until you got acceptance/rejection notice? Mail, email, or phone notice?

have all the scholarship applications been processed already? i see a “new student special scholarship” in my financial aid. does that mean i’m out of luck for a “named” scholarship? lol

Unfortunately, I am afraid so. From what I have gathered from a conversation with Daniel is that you can either get a named scholarship or a newly admitted scholarship, but not both. In my case he said that since I got a named scholarship, I can’t get the new student one.

Ryancnyc- congrats! I had couple questions and would appreciate it if you can reply!

When did you exactly apply and for what major?

What were your stats generally? (gpa, where are you transferring from, etc)
