Fall 2012 Transfers

@cosworth: what’s your major? They might just be waiting for the departments’ decisions.

I don’t know why the UW is doing that to its transfer applicants… All other universities have already made their decisions several months ago.

Foreign Language double major. Applied specifically as a Japanese major.

The wait is tiring more than anything else. The whole not knowing bit…

I’m still waiting without much hope at this point. It appears my acceptance is dependent upon entry into the program I applied to, and they don’t make decisions up until the end of July. How many people here applied to competitive programs, haven’t heard back from their programs yet, and still got accepted through general transfer admissions?

@seatac: Yeah. And some have to send in their deposits to their backup schools, so if they do get accepted at UW, they end up wasting $.

@Cosworth: Is that a competitive major? I wonder why you haven’t heard yet.

@udubberman: I got accepted as a pre science major, but I’m a CSE applicant.

@nbr000, exactly… I heard from WSU in the beginning of March and my deposit was due on May 1st. I was going to pay it ($200) just to make sure I will go SOMEWHERE, but then I decided “It’s the UW sooner or later or nothing else”. A good decision as it turned out.

WSU says they “want” your deposit by May 1st, but they will accept it all the way up until school starts according to the person I spoke with.

Well, the problem is that they won’t sign you up for an orientation unless you actually pay the money. No orientation = no registration. But anyway, WSU also asks you to complete MSI 250 (some computer systems-related class) before you can certify into business administration. The funny part is that my community college and many others don’t have an equivalent for this class.

No, Japanese is not a competitive major. While there’s no hard and fast data, the general public opinion would be that the major is small enough (Theres only about 130 Asian Language majors. That’s between about 8 languages. The program is like, number four in the nation though. Only Ivies beat it.) that they’d be happy to get anyone (good grades and interest perhaps a bit more culturally expected). I’ve got all Pre-reqs, ~3.9 GPA, 90+ credits. I just wished they’d tell me; whatever the decision may be.

I’ve heard of a few people having to do deposits for other schools and throwing their hands up in the air in regards to UW. Which is a shame, as they’re top-notch students.

It’ll be worth the wait, of course, if I’m accepted. Just a bit of harmless venting until then. ;)

Unofficial just loaded. I could die with relief.

Don’t give up, those still waiting! Plenty of hope left!

Congratulations!
Everyone now is checking their unofficial like insane

Just signed up for orientation on the 25th! Anyone else going to that one?

cosworth: good luck getting in and getting into the japanese major.

My husband got his masters through their japanese program and loved it. Great professors.

Thanks everyone.

Yes, I’ve heard the program and profs are great. Now only if I could decide on that second language  (Mandarin Chinese or Korean. Answer is not as obvious as one might assume).

Good luck to those still waiting! I don’t think the wait means anything beyond being well… later.

Still waiting on word from the UW! Hopefully the wait isn’t too much longer! I’m transferring after my freshman year at the University of Michigan, but I’m a Washington resident. Are any other freshman transfers in the same boat? Does anyone know the acceptance rate for freshman transfers - I know it’s pretty selective. Thanks!

It’s very low. Only 10% of spots are for transfers from 4-year colleges.

" Now only if I could decide on that second language (Mandarin Chinese or Korean. Answer is not as obvious as one might assume)."

My husband took Korean for his second language at uw (4th language in all) and didn’t like the program at all. I would go with Chinese.

Hmm, really? Why didn’t he like it?

As to not totally hijack this thread… I’d like to point out to those still waiting; my acceptance letter came in a very plain white envelope. I’d heard somewhere that acceptances came in purple/gold, with rejections in white. So if you’ve heard that rumor, don’t believe it!

Still waiting on my new student packet. Dying to register for Orientation/etc.

anyone else still waiting? I have not heard anything yet…

I am still waiting too. I have called the school yesterday, and they told me that they are working to send the rest of the letters by next week, but for sure that they will be done by the end of this month.

I got accepted in UW Tacoma about 3 months ago, but I am still waiting for UW Seattle… I can’t wait anymoooooooooooore
