@Natdcny: agreed; housing, financial aid, moving, I wish I could get done right now so I can jump in head fist into what Tsar1007 is talking about…I can’t wait

tsar is right. i got my undergrad degree from penn. whole different ball game.

Regarding pets in UAH… yeah, it’s “not allowed.” We totally don’t have a cat, nor do several of our neighbors have dogs at all… Nope!

(This is in couple’s housing, basically an apartment. In the singles with roommates that’s a different story).

EDIT: Yes, Columbia is very intense. But you definitely have to (and have time to occasionally) enjoy a Froyo on the steps. It’s really important to keep some balance in your life, otherwise you’ll just be miserable and not get nearly as much out of Columbia as you could.

Yes true tsar10027, I have never had an issue with hard work! But we do need to eat right! Looking forward to it!

Something I have learned in my many years of the planet is that balance is far more valuable than crazy dedication to academics or work. I have had two semesters in school to try out ways of being as a student. Last semester, I killed my self with all kinds of sacrifices to my health by foregoing excercise and good diet and getting together with friends - never again! This semester, I made those three components non-negotiable and I am a much better student!! So froyo on the Low Library steps, here I come!! I will join you in chillin’ like a villain!!! :)

I received this message on my financial aid page:

I am pleased to inform you that by delegated authority of the Scholarship Committee of the School of General Studies, you have been awarded a New Student Scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year. Please see the awards section of this letter to review this award and any other aid currently offered to you. Scholarship Guidelines:

Weird that it cuts off and I can’t find an awards section. Is anyone else having the same issue?

@to6284 I’ve got the same thing on mine. I also qualified for work study, and I have a section that outlines the guidelines for my GS scholarship. Hopefully we get some good money.

How do you apply for scholarships? I can’t log in without a UNI which, after I called, I was told won’t come for a week or two. Most of what they awarded me were loans, not any actual financial aid so I’m trying to apply for something if possible.

@Motame here’s the link: https://gs.columbia.edu/new-student-scholarship-application

Fill it out and they’ll match you with scholarships that best fit you. I filled mine out months ago when I submitted the first part of my application. I still don’t know what I have received, I am guessing it will take a couple of days for the website to update.

I’ve received all my award info. Phi Theta scholarship and GS scholarship, they should be up, if your not it could be a FAFSA thing, or not!

Definitely Froyo! Anyone have a problem with that you can take it up with my 4.0! SNAP

Lol
;-)

Natdcny SHOW OFF!

But definitely, I think everyone in this thread should meet up on the steps of the library for froyo first week of class!

the first AP in may is fully booked :(

I visited the campus last weekend – I’ve spent quite a bit of time in the village, but never appreciated this end of NYC – it’s breathtaking; can’t wait to see it all frozen over and under snow next fall.

I’ll third the fro-yo motion, but it’d be better sooner than later – as a math major, I imagine the first week of classes will be as rigorous as the last.

Same thing happened to me! I got en endowed scholarship but have no details.

to6284 - Thanks so much for the link! Is there a deadline for this? I wish I had found this sooner I can’t believe I didn’t… I want to prepare a well written statement but at the same time get it in as soon as possible, especially since they already declared my awards on my financial aid page and it’s left a huge hole in my tuition even after my partial GI Bill benefit.

to6284, thank you for your last week wishes, and congrats to accepted one though waiting for the unannounced result was painful but good luck for those who still haven’t heard from the admission. Did any one get the financial aid package? Any grants or scholarship? I also submitted the FAFSA but does the pin really take few days to be active?

So far, financial aid information has shown up on some of our online financial aid profiles but with few actual details. It includes loan info and work study notification. Mine did have a New Student Scholarship but they took that away after a couple of days and replaced it with an endowed scholarship. I have the name of the scholarship but nothing else that tells me how much it is for. Since finding that out, I have been obsessively refreshing my aid package in case they give details! Not sure why they are doing it this way…it’s a cruel tease to keep me from walking away too soon! Still waiting to hear back regarding housing. It’s been two and a half months since putting that application in but I imagine they are waiting for people to announce that they are vacating. Sigh… Oh, and I am so in for a froyo gathering on the steps that first week! We must meet on Storybook first once folks get their invitations!

Awesome article in the Columbia Spectator

Both of those students have 4.0+ gpa’s and jave genius level IQ’s. Unless you’re a bonagide genius, which these people are, it’s next to impossible to graduate with a really high gpa without devoting a significant amout of your life to studying. And if you’re not obsessed with getting really good grades, then you’ll definately be in the minority at this school.

I’ll be graduating in a 2 weeks. I was inducted into the Honor’s Society and Phi Beta Kappa, and I’ll be going to a presitgious law school in the fall (top 5). I lived a pretty balanced life - worked out everyday, joined a frat, and I’m in a relationship - but most of my time was geared towards school-work. It all depends on what you want out of this experience. I wanted to get a high gpa and get into a top law school, and to do those things it took many long, sleepless nights in Butler, writing papers weeks in advance, and studying 8+ hourse a day.
