Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

@VillageMom, I will be transferring to LSA as a sophomore. The NorthWood Apartments are too far, thats what I heard - is that true?

Yes, Northwood Apartments are in the North Campus area. Great for my son, but you’re going to want to be in Central Campus. Sorry I can’t be of any help!

I am a bit confused here though. Cant sophomores be placed in Central campus?

@UMTransfer91 No, I was admitted without being asked to submit the mid-term report…

I have a question. Does paying the $200 deposit fee mean I must attend UM? Thanks.

I’m a little late to this party but I’m a bit nervous about my chances and I want to see how my chances are. I’m applying to LSA as a junior.
Currently a sophomore at MSU, after this semester I will have completed 56 credits along with 15 AP credits and I currently have a lower GPA here 3.2. It has shown upward trend, and so far this year I have all 4.0s and one 3.5. I explained my poor grades to them on my common app.
High School Stats
GPA- 3.4
ACT- 29

I applied right before the Feb deadline, and got on email on Monday that they wanted a mid term report from my professors. I assumed this to be a good thing because my application was still in contention, and I have drastically improved my grades this semester. They received my form on Wednesday according to Wolverine Access.
What are my chances/when will I hear back?
Thanks in advance!

I’m at Washtenaw Community College and haven’t heard ANYTHING! This is driving me nuts. None of my peers who have also applied to CoE at UM have heard anything back either.

Tpd1987, my son is finishing up at WCC, too, and he was accepted into the CoE on March 15th. How many credits do you have? Have you met with an M-Pod advisor? Have you fulfilled the courses that the CoE wants to see? Have you done well in those classes?

I’m not trying to be nosy, just trying to get a handle on what’s going on with your application.

@VillageMom
What classes is your son in this semester? I wonder if I’m in any of his classes.
I have a 3.98 GPA and will have fulfilled all CoE requirements by the end if Spring/Summer semester. I would have been on the perfect path (finishing this semester with summer off), but last semester I withdrew from Calc 3. Yes I have a ‘W’ on my transcript now. I’m currently enrolled in Calc 3, Physics 2, and chem…will be taking Diff. eq. In the summer and after that all my prereqs will be finished. I’ve gotten all A’s and one A- (sociology class). I have taken 64 credits at WCC.

I have a very rough history however. I dropped out of HS, should of graduated in 05, started getting serious at WCC in fall 2010. I know of at least 3 of my peers who have also applied and heard nothing back yet!

I have met with Alexandra the M-Pod coordinator an she told me my chances were good. But I haven’t spoken with her in months now. (I applied 11/26)

Congrats on your son’s acceptance!!!

Wow, Tpd… I’d accept you, if I was the Admissions Director! You’re doing just as they suggest and doing great, too!

How are you doing in Calc 3 this semester? My son’s only “B” came in Calc 1 or 2 and Alexandra told him that UM likes to see improvement. So if you do well in Calc 3 this semester, I wouldn’t think that a withdrawal would be held against you.

You’re telling me that you dropped out of high school and then took on a pre-engineering path in which you’ve earned all As?? That is crazy impressive. WCC is going to want to put you on the front of their brochures! I hope that everyone around you is telling you how proud they are of you because you are an inspiration.

Alexandra told us that UM’s Engineering is not all that interested in your high school experience. My son was homeschooled and his transcript isn’t terribly impressive. I mean, he got all As but his parents are the administrators, you know? He wasn’t president of this or captain of that.

She said that they want to know if you can succeed in their program. The best indicator of that will be how you do in your college classes, especially the maths and sciences.

Maybe you haven’t heard yet because you will be finishing over the summer? If you don’t hear good news soon, then definitely go visit Alexandra again. She might advise you to apply in the fall as a transfer into the winter semester. I’m feeling VERY confident for you!

(I think my son is taking Diff. Eq. and Physics 2. He’s a tall, lanky 18 year old with a buzz cut. If you go up to a student like that and say, “Hey, did your mom hyperventilate at the M-Den recently?” my son will immediately know what you mean.)

Hey guys, as an OOS Mechanical Engineering student (Virginia) new to this thread, I was wondering when I should be expecting admission decisions to be out? I saw on their website that it takes about 8 weeks, but I applied on Feb. 1 and I still haven’t heard anything yet.
I’m really stressing if I’ll be accepted or not. My college stats are good but high school not as much.

Last semester, I took 19 credits (4.0 GPA) and now I’m currently enrolled in 26 credits + 4 credits by examination (only 2 or 3 B’s so far). Out of those 26 credits, I’m taking 8 of them at 2 community colleges (CC)

1st Semester: Chem + lab, Physics 1, Calc 2, English, and Intro to Engineering
2nd Semester: Astronomy, Deformables, Thermo, Modern Physics, Linear Algebra, Math Reasoning, Physics 2 (CC), Circuits + Lab (CC), and Calc 3 (by exam)

High school: ~4.24weighted GPA (3.35-3.5 UW), IB program, 1310/1600 SAT, and 28 ACT.
Also, took extra classes at 2 CC getting a 3.0 GPA (3 classes) and a 2.0 GPA (1 class). Senior year I was taking 9-10 classes when most everyone was taking 7.

What do you think my chances are assuming great app essays and an average LOR? Thanks!

I was accepted on Weds. Excited but nervous. Sophomore transfer. I haven’t visited, so I need to know more about a lot of things, housing especially. Does anyone know if there is transfer housing? If not, where to live best to meet people? Is there fraternity rush in the fall? What part of campus are the frats?

@newtocollege:

Same, I am also a sophomore transfer and pretty nervous. I am coming for another big public university and nervous I will not get enough financial aid because I am OOS and UMich has notoriously bad FA. Overall, I have the same questions though about housing and pretty sure there is fall rush for the frats.

I will have 65 credits after this semester, but only 47 of them transfer :grimacing:. Do you guys think I’ll be considered a sophomore or junior transfer?

so does anyone who got the housing application email feel absolutely screwed? at least if you’re an lsa student who wanted to live on central campus in the dorms…it sounds like we’re gonna be stuck in north wood apartments. i’m so mad!!!

Just checked the access page and I got accepted. Best of luck to everyone!

can anyone give me feedback on my case? It would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Toofast, have you heard anything about FA?

how does Michigan notify you on whether or not you’ve been accepted or rejected? will it say on the wolverine access page? or will they send the decision via email?

@newtocollege

I called FA and they said that I will hear back in 1-3 weeks.

Hey you guys, how do we find out whether we’re accepted or not? My girlfriend helped me and called the admissions office and they said they’d send out a decision in early April. But I’m still worried like mad :S

Oh, and I don’t know whether this means anything but, I sent in most of my material in mid-January, and could only send my fall semester results in late February. A couple days after I sent my results to the office, they told me they had to withdraw my application, and I appealed to them saying it was because of administrative reasons that I couldn’t send my results earlier. They replied saying this:

Dear Harzan,

We have added your email to your file. FYI, we do not have a transcript from Asia Pacific University. All we have from them is a course listing with accompanying descriptions.

Can you guys tell me what does that mean? Does it mean my application will be reviewed later than everyone else? They’ve updated my application status, by saying they received my results on the 12th of March. Someone help! :(
