Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

Hey guys! I am currently waiting for a response from U-M. I am applying as a freshman transfer. I am attending Western Michigan University and I am not having a good experience at all. I want nothing more than to go to U-M as a sophomore! I love everything about U-M as a school, all of it’s programs, and the town of Ann Arbor just tops it all off! I have many friends there that have encouraged me to apply, and so I did just that! I sent in my ACT scores and my U-M supplements on the 25th of January, and sent in my common app on the 28th! My HS and college transcripts were sent 2-3 weeks ago so I am hoping everything has been received.

Right now, I can’t stop thinking about what will happen if I don’t get accepted. I have heard that getting in as a freshman transfer is nearly impossible, especially if HS grades are not overly fantastic.

Here are my stats:

HS GPA: 3.16 UW/3.29 W
ACT: 23
ECs: Volunteered for 8 hours at the Wildcat Bash held at my high school, 5 hours at the Agape Christian Church, and 8 hours at the Kiddie-U Daycare Center. I also did cheerleading for 2 years and choir for all 4 years of high school.

Though my HS GPA is really low, I raised it from a 2.3 my sophomore year, to a 3.3 by the end of my senior year!

Junior year:
1st semester: 3.72 GPA
2nd semester: 4.057 GPA

Senior year:
1st semester: 4.11 GPA
2nd semester: 3.98 GPA

My grade trend has increased significantly and I was able to explain why my grades were so poor my first few years of HS in my additional essay. (I was bullied)

College stats:
3.88 GPA- 16 credits completed/15 pending.
the classes I took last semester included calculus, spanish, biology, and direct encounter with the arts.

My current courses include chemistry, psychology, spanish, english, and chem lab.

I am also a soloist in the No Strings Attached A Cappella Group here at WMU!

I have nearly lost all hope, but I am wondering what you guys think! Do you think I have any chance at all, or at least a chance that they will request my 2nd semester grades? I don’t know what I will do if I am denied. :frowning:

Thanks for your help!

So UMich Admissions just emailed me asking form my Mid-Term Report for this semester. Is this a good or bad thing? I believe I currently have a 3.8 so far but it’s still really early in the semester.

@tumboma-- Good or bad, not sure. Probably because of the amount of credits you have accumulated thus far in college. Try to refrain from over stressing, your gpa is still above the transfer avg.

–BTW guys the document posted by the OP, made my albo (?) is a great way to check if your gpa and credit count are on par.–

I had a family member that applied to UofM - Ann Arbor. They received a decision today around 1pm EST.

Has anyone else received a decision today?

@Bacon No, I’m still anxiously waiting :anguished: Do you know when your relative applied?

@Parkerm1 Not too long ago. 4-5 weeks at the latest.

Do they not even begin to review your application until everything is updated on Wolverine Access? I submitted my app 11/27, and all of my materials got updated in WA by the first week of January, except for my college transcript. They acknowledged they had my college transcript a while ago, but didn’t post that it was received on WA until 1/29.

Yea they don’t even look at your application until it is fully complete and all the supplements and parts to it are present and processed.

Ugh, glad I took the initiative to send in things as soon as possible. I was hoping to know before the end of February, so I’d know whether or not I need to visit the school over spring break.

Hey everyone!

I applied to UM’s college of engineering last year (senior year of high school) and was deferred then waitlisted. I’m now at Michigan State and have reapplied to the CoE for fall 2013. I was pretty crushed when I didn’t get in to UofM, so I went extra hard my first semester and plan to do so until I get in (and after, I guess :P).

I am in Computer Science and Engineering at MSU, and applied there at UofM. The minimum GPA is 3.5 for transfers.

Here’s my stats:

MSU GPA: 4.0 (top 5% of engineering students at MSU)
High School GPA: ~3.7 (because high school is a joke :P)
ACT: 31
11 Credits from high school, 12 transferable credits first semester, and 15 more this semester.

My essays were really, really strong. A friend of the family who is an English major at UM helped me a lot with my essays, and I am very confident in them.

High school:

Intense passion for drumming since 5th grade
FIRST Robotics senior year
Varsity soccer Freshman-Junior

College:

Spartasoft (Game design/CSE club)
Spartiecars application development
Top 5% of engineers at MSU
Invited to Tower Guard (top 5% of freshmen)

I’ll keep you updated when I hear anything from Michigan. Do you think I have a shot at getting in?

Thanks and good luck yourselves! :)

Hi Guys!! I’ve been lurking on this forum and its time for me to join into the discussion!

I applied for fall 2013 and I’m extremely nervous and excited!

I had my transcripts from college and high school sent in, however in this picture all I see is the SAT scores being recorded. In the email that came with my UMICH ID, it says “Only those materials that we have not yet received will be displayed under Credentials—Other Required Application Materials.” Since there is nothing there, does that mean I’m all cleared? Or am I missing something here?

@stashjuice: I have actually been through the same. I guess once they start reviewing your application and they find something missing, they will update it on WAccess. Other than that, I guess you should be fine. Best of luck!

On a separate note, does anyone know when the next wave of results can come in?

Dunno when they’re coming in but I’m dying here. This is the last American school I’m waiting to hear back from (but I know that we won’t hear about financial aid until later, sigh)

Agh, any second now would be appreciated!

I was feeling the same way, and then they asked for my mid term grades. Looks like I won’t be hearing back until late February at the earliest.

Just accepted! Wooooo I might have screamed when I saw the email!

Good luck to everyone else c:

Congratulations, Ezbreez!!! I’m glad that you got an answer (and a good one!) today! Best wishes for your future.

@Ebreez When did you apply, and when did they receive everything?

Congrats ezbreez. May all the others get a positive response as well.

Congrats ezbreeze!

Hey everyone, I’m hoping your decisions will come soon! I submitted my application pretty late (January 29th) and got accepted on the 7th so it was super quick! I had a lot of the same problems as some of you guys with not being able to see if they had received everything! I called twice but never actually talked to someone, but apparently they had received everything so if you sent it, I wouldn’t worry too much about it because they most likely have it! Anyways here are my stats, I am a freshmen at Marquette accepted into LSA for fall 2013, but I didn’t apply to Michigan when originally applying to college.

HS GPA: 3.88 unweighted
took honors and AP classes all throughout, but didn’t get any AP credit

ACT: 30

ACTIVITIES:
year round swimming for 10 years
4 years varsity swimming, captain senior year
some volunteering at the senior center
student government 3 years
National honor society
had a job senior year at a swim school

COLLEGE GPA: 3.5 (calculated what it would have been at Michigan: 3.67)
15 credits including biology, psychology, spanish, english, western civ
all the classes I took last semester and this semester transfer over, and all of my foreign language and 1st year English requirements will be fulfilled along with a large portion of the area distribution requirement (I feel like this helped my getting in a lot)

COLLEGE ACTIVITIES:
club rowing
hall council
Sigma Kappa sorority

I really didn’t think I’d get in with my only decent grades last semester, but they got back to me so quickly and I was really surprised! Go Blue!
