I know it's a little early, but I've decided to start this thread for those applying for transfer admissions at Union. Please post your stats and chance me! Thanks!!!

I'm from Brazil. Do you guys think I stand any chances?

High School GPA:3.7
College GPA: 3.5 (actually, my college here in Brazil doesn't calculate a GPA but I tried to estimate one. My current average is 8.7 out of 10)
Major:Political Science
extra-curriculars: learning three languages on my own (German, Spanish and Italian)
Voluntary English Tutor
Research on "Politics and Human Rights''
ACT: 27
TOEFL ibt: 106 ( the perfect score is 120, and Union requires a minimum score of 80)
Excellent recommendations
The professor who reviewed my essay, told me it is very strong.

Awards: I was selected for a US embassy program on US History and Government for Brazilian student leaders at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. It took place this year between january and february. It was a national level competition. The chances of being accepted was around 2%.

My EFC is near O (I need a lot of financial aid, that's why I'm worried I won't be admitted!)

anyone else applying?

I’ve just checked my application status and was surprised to have my decision already posted! I was rejected! I was kinda’ expecting that because of my EFC of 0. Good luck to those still waiting for a decision!

I’ve also applied to Trinity College (CT). Do you guys think I should bring my hopes up or it is the end of the line for me? Thanks!

I was accepted to Union College as a transfer student about a week ago. What would you like to know?

As I said I was just rejected by Union as an international transfer. Now trinity college in CT is my only hope left. I think I have a shot according to my stats (my gpa, scores, etc are exactly the average and a little above the average of the students admitted at trinity), I also think that there’s no Brazilian student at trinity to date, but my EFC is nearly 0. I think that was the major reason why Union rejected me.

I’ve just posted my stats above. Do you think I still have any chances at Trinity or my financial need will kill my dream for good?

One guy at a trinity forum said I should be an easy admission, but I think he forgot that I need a HUGE amount of aid. I want to trust him, but I’m afraid to bring my hopes up and end up disappointed again!

Also, could you post your stats? Are you American or intl? Did you ask for financial aid? Thank you!

HS gpa: 3.84
College (Chapman University) gpa: 3.86
SAT: 2000
Essay: One of the best I’ve ever written.
Interview: Absolutely nailed it. Without it, I don’t believe I would have gotten accepted.
Lots of community service.

I applied to Trinity as well. Haven’t heard back yet. Interviewed and toured. Was impressed but not blown away.

I need a fair amount of aid as well and have heard that Union is quite generous. Haven’t received a package yet.

We’ll see with Trinity. All depends on how many spaces they have open. Their freshman retention rate is about 88% whereas Union is 92%. A few dozen less spots open at Union, however I assume Trinity will be just about as selective due to these percentages.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: sorry, just checked the 2012 retention rate for Trinity. It was 91%. Plan for it to be just as selective as Union, but don’t fret. Trinity could see something in your application that Union might have overlooked.

Union is not that generous when it comes to intl’s. I mean, it’s really hard for intl’s to get full ride especially as transfer students. Also, there’s no interview for intl transfers. I really hope that Trinity sees something in my application that Union didn’t. I think my profile fits more Trinity than Union anyway. I hope that maybe there’s no Brazilian student at Trinity and I might be the one they’re looking for. I’m so scared! Trinity is my last chance to make my dream come true. I really don’t want it to end this way. So, do you think that if they have room available I might get in even though I need a huge amount of aid? Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do now but wait and hope for the best, but these agony and fear are killing me. Thanks for answering and congrats again!

Btw, did Trinity send you an email with you id number and password to check your application status? Did you apply for the spring or fall term? They didn’t send me an email with that information, just one that says that my application is complete. At first I was a bit worried, but since they said my app is complete I didn’t care much. I think they will send me an email with my decision when it comes out. I just wanna know if other applicants got their id’s to check their status or just an email like mine. Thanks!
