If anybody is still around can you answer my question?

I’m applying for fall via paper application but one of my professors told me that when she went to the site it said that transfer students had to apply via online application. Did anyone else encounter this? Or is anyone else applying via paper? I’m not sure if I should go ahead and apply online (because I don’t know if the essay question will change) or if the GS site is correct and I can still apply via the paper application. Any help would be greatly appreciated, even more so if given ASAP!

My name is Robbie, and I am a current GS student who also works as a tour guide for GS. As a transfer student myself, I used the online application, but the paper application is totally fine as well. Let me know if you have further questions, and I’ll do my best to help you.

Quick question everyone. I had submitted my application, along with my essay, to Columbia GS 3 days ago. However, i was just taking a look at it and I noticed I made a very small typing error in my essay: instead of writing “as a child,” I wrote “as I child.” Do you think I should call them and tell them to delete the essay from their file and send the same essay with that correction? That is the only mistake on the essay. What do you guys think?

@Stein614 I personally wouldnt hold it against an applicant if they made one minor mistake. Several of them would be a different story and I would then recommend to swap for the corrected version.

Is it too late to apply for the fall admission?

I went to a vacation during winter break and once I came back to NYC I was busy with getting myself back for spring semester and my job that I mised the early admission for the fall, will it be a totally pointless if I submit it now or in a few weeks?

@ChristinaLiang If you wanted to do early action, then yes, it is pointless to submit now. However, it is not too late to apply for Fall 2014. Regular Decision applicants have until June 1.

My name’s Christina and I’m a tour guide at GS. It is most definitely not too late! The regular decision admission deadline is June 1. That’s how I applied so I don’t think it’s pointless at all! Good luck!

I also have a addition question. Since I plan to take the GSAE and retake my SAT score during May. Can I submit part 1 of the application with the scores blank? Because as I read from the application it seems that the office of admissions will also want the official scores sent by college board, so does it really matter if I do not fill that portion out because I will not know my new scores until the end of May and I do not wan to wait until the dead line to submit my application.

Yes, @ChristinaLiang, you can leave the scores blank. I just took the GSAE last month (since my scores are almost 12 years old), so I left that scores part of my Part I blank. After you submit your Part I, they somehow (assuming by SSN) get your SAT scores, but your GSAE will show up not long after you take it and will supersede the SAT scores (although both will still show up on the application tracker).

As I mentioned above, I’m a tour guide at GS, and I checked with the admissions team about your question. Here is the information they provided:

If you are planning to retake your SATs in May, you may leave the scores blank, but you are advised to include the date that you plan to take it (if you’re not sure of the exact date, provide only the month and year), so that the admissions committee knows when to expect your scores. The space to do this may be found in Part I of the application, within the “College Entrance Examination Scores” section on page 3.

However, if you retake the SAT in May, you will not be eligible to take the GSAE. The GSAE is only an option for students who have never taken the SAT or ACT, or whose most current SAT or ACT scores are older than 8 years.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions.

I’m not sure. I think some people get those confirmations while others never do but all are still considered. It’s a little confusing and quite a contrast from every other university I’ve applied to. I think if you call and they give you the go-ahead that should suffice.

What are you looking to study? Where does GS fall on your preferences?
