I’m a freshman at Providence College applying to BC as a transfer for the Fall 2014 semester.

High School GPA: 3.3 (my high school has a very strong reputation)
SAT: 1870
ACT: n/a
EC: two-year captain, varsity football… peer ministry… chorus… musical theater… student ambassador…two-year retreat leader

College GPA (through one semester): 3.92 (I think PC is fairly reputable)
EC: sports writer for the student newspaper…member of all-male a Capella group

I think my application essay is very good; it focuses mostly on faith

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES? Any feedback is appreciated.

I don’t know anything about chances. A 3.92 sure looks impressive to me!

I have a question - why do you want to transfer to BC? Unless our daughter gets a Presidential Scholarship (highly unlikely) we can’t afford BC. One of the schools that has been recommended to us is Providence, who offers merit aid. We’re planning on visiting there soon but haven’t done so yet. I’d love some feedback on why, after attending PC for a year, you’d still rather go to BC. Is it just the prestige or is it something else?

Hmm…pretty impressive! I know BC transfer is very selective so don’t get your hopes up…quite a jump from HS to college…your high school must have been very good because getting good grades at PC is not easy! a lot of smart, good kids there. I would say don’t buy your BC apparel yet but that resume will get you in a lot of other places!! best of luck

PC is a great place. BC, however, has been a dream of mine since I was young. Believe me when I say that when I was denied as a senior, I was devastated. Especially since my two best friends are enrolled in 2017 (and one is, coincidentally, a Presidential Scholar). So, my goal going into the Fall was to excel at Providence, strengthen my transcript, and transfer in. I’m just not giving up on the dream. But I’ll be happy no matter what institution I end up at.

I encourage you to tour the campus. See what’s going on. PC is a great place – and I hope you don’t think my transfer application stems from issues with the school.
