Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

RTF majors, I know that that is the most competitive major in the college of comm. The average GPA I would shoot for would be a 3.7. I would definitely put a second choice in cola to ensure acceptance. I know from experience that the comm school is tough to get into. I had a 3.84 for PR, so I feel that a higher GPA would be more sufficient to definitely being accepted.

If anyone has specific Moody College of Communication questions regarding transferring, shoot me a message! I’d be more than happy to help.

@DeeGeeErbear I’m hesitant to edit my application at this point to add a second major. I’m only interested in the RTF program, so if I’m not accepted, I shall continue with my work at my current school with film. However, do you feel that my GPA being so low automatically rules me out for consideration? I feel like I have pretty good work on my transfer resume that shows my work within the film community as well as essays to speak to that…I dunno,.

This entire process is so stressful and discouraging. I halfway wish I had never found this forum so that I could wait out the next month in peace without constantly comparing myself to others like this :confused: urgh.

@jennat I can’t honestly say how your GPA will help you, sometimes when a major is so competitive, they’ll take someone with equal experience in film with an even higher GPA. It depends on the applicant pool that you’re up against. Putting a second major is crucial if you want to attend UT however.

I wish applicants with over 30 hours could use their current semester grades for admission.

@jennat: In your case I don’t think it worth it for you to put a second choice major. You’re already in a film school, if you got into UT it would be wonderful, but if you don’t it won’t make any sense for you to withdraw from your current school and transfer here where you will have to spend a semester major in something completely irrelevant. Not to mention the internal transfer route is still a possibility, it’s not guarantee you will get in their film school.

I am attending community college and I expect to have AT LEAST a 3.8 GPA. Would this (and strong essays, average EC’s, and 2 letters of recommendation) nearly guarantee me transfer admission to UT Austin’s College of Natural Sciences (nutritional sciences)?

Do recommendations have deadlines too or can you send them in whenever before you application is in review?

@TexasOVO23 It would certainly give you a great chance, although nothing is 100% guaranteed. I’m pretty much in the same situation in regards to your info. When do you plan on applying? CNS is competitive from what I’ve heard, but a 3.8 is above average for sure.

@damnlol1 everything has a deadline. If I’m not mistaken you have until March 7th to get everything in though.

@TexasOVO23 as long as you have all of the required courses to transfer in a 3.8 puts you in great standings. While CNS IS a competitive school to get into, I haven’t read that Nutritional Sciences is a competitive major. So that will also weigh in to your chances. I think you have a pretty good chance! :)

@damnlol1 I plan on applying for transfer in February or March! Do you know if being in middle of completing your 30 hours hurt your chances of admittance?

Hey guys can someone chance me?

i currently go to utsa and am trying to transfer to ut austin in fall 2014 like the rest of u guys

my resume/stats are

GPA- 3.46 /// possibly looking for a (3.6 +)
Hours- 50 /// 67(including current semester)
applied for CNS (biochemistry) 1st choice and COLA (undeclared) 2nd choice

i have already taken calc 1 and 2. bio 1 , physics 1 for engineers, and chem 1 for my degree and some random sciences classes include (astronomy 1, geology 1)//// currently taking (bio 2, physics 2 for engineers)
another note is that in my fall semester i received all A’s in 18 hours, i know that UT does look at the upward trend when making a decision.

I believe that my essays were great

i had a lot of extracurriculars as a high school student over 500 hours but did not do much as a college student. however i placed these high school ec on my resume that we had to submit not on my applytexas application as i was confused on whether to place high school ex or my college ec.

@utchild199
They’re going to look at your resume as well as your application, so not listing them on the app shouldn’t be a problem. A 3.46 puts you right on the bubble right now. If you could get it up to a 3.6 that would be wonderful and it will improve your chances. UT does a holistic review, meaning that they will take all of your EC’s into consideration. You essays will also play a part, I think you’re standing on good grounds, just try to get your GPA up a little bit. :slight_smile: I’m wishing you all of the luck in the world! :slight_smile:

Wait, even if you can boost it to a 3.6, how will they see that upward trend if they make the decision before seeing your spring 2014 grades?

i was talking about my fall grades since i made all As that should already been seen in my application through my transcript

1 week down…how many more to go??? (:expressionless: :-w @-) ~O)

@rice00princess 4 or 5 weeks

mystatus finally changed to in review :slight_smile: so excited and hopeful!

Mine is still “Complete / on time”.

@baylorgal123 what are your stats?

I thought I had a 3.4 transferable GPA, but with further calculations from dual credit, I have a 3.61 and I’m applying to College of Education and UGS!
