yangyang93,it’s really hard to say… did you get straight A’s in your math, physics, and chem classes? you will have a better shot if you did. I personally don’t believe other classes matter how competitive you are. But I recently got postponed by TAMU when I had straight A’s in all my classes includes calc and chem, but a C in my government class, I don’t know if that was the reason they postponed me.
I think school’s academic ranking don’t really matter. If I was wrong, please correct me.

Yea as far as I know yangyang93, they treat all schools the same so a top ranked school is viewed on the same level as a lower ranking school. I believe Cockrell does really look at your math and science classes too and how well you did in them, along with if you have what is required completed. So getting A’s in all those classes is definitely a plus!

@mandler my stats:

I applied for Fall 2014

Current College: Austin Community College
Current GPA: 3.8
Probable GPA after Spring: Only taking one class (O Chem 2) and have an A so far so 4.0 for this semester and a little bit higher than a 3.8 overall
First Choice Major: Chemical Engineering (Accepted)
Second Choice Major: Biomedical Engineering
Courses completed: Calc 1-3 Diff EQ Eng. Phys 1 Eng. Phys 2 Gen Chem 1 and 2 O Chem 1 O Chem 2 (In progress)…all English, govt, History, etc completed as well. Total I will have 74 hrs after this semester. I also took stats and another Biology course, but that was when I was majoring in Pharmacy. I switched last Spring so that is why I have a little more hours than some.
Letters of Rec: None.
Extracurriculars: Worked my same job for past three years and paid my way through ACC, Pharmacy internship and experience, I run 5 and 10Ks for charity, volunteer my time to tutor people of all ages in Math and Chemistry, played clarinet for several years in HS, was a section leader, won state marching band contest, made all region band, was in the top ensemble, do kickboxing and brazilian jiu jitsu presently as my extracurriculars. As far as my HS stats (memory is fuzzy on this b/c I graduated in 2011)…I was in the top quartile but not in top 10%, HS was very competitive, had a 94.00 GPA just about, had a 32 ACT (don’t remember individual scores) and my SAT was a little above average.
Essays: In my opinion I thought they were good. Just talked about my academic journey and how I ended up choosing ChemE as my major and what led me to doing so. Also talked about what I have to offer to UT and how my acceptance would help enrich and contribute to its diverse community. Had my uncle that goes to USC review them and he said they were good as well.
I am also female, second generation UT student (my mom graduated from McCombs), and I am Hispanic. So I was able to talk about being a female in a male dominated field and such in my essays.

Thanks for replying so fast guys! I still waiting my decision and the long wait is going to kill me. Another day without any news!

Congrats!! :D

Do you think UT gives out decisions on Sundays as well???

Congrats y’all!!! That’s so exciting! I wish y’all the best =D>

Why is mine status still only a ‘complete’? Anyone the same?

@48hiv2 Yes mine is. I applied to the business school.

Thanks. Seeing so many people in review makes me nervous. I applied to Moody Radio, TV and Film

My status says “Complete / On time,” but at the top of the page it says “Your application for admission is in review.”

Does anybody else’s status say “We are unable to check the status of your application for admission. Please contact the Office of Admissions at…” ? I applied for Cockrell and I noticed that some people had already gotten their decisions so I was just curious if anyone else’s page said this

Does UT have a certain order to the acceptance process? Like maybe by last name or strongest applicants to weakest? Or do they just accept random people at random times?

My general feeling for the admissions process of any school is decisions are made by the departments individually, and they admit the “sure thing” candidates first. This gives more time for other candidates to get all their paperwork turned in so they may be considered. They would rather admit an excellent candidate who got their transcripts in late, than admit a less than excellent candidate who had their application completed early. Just my thoughts though…

has anyone been accepted to BME yet? The wait is driving me crazy!

Here to join the crowd of those who got their acceptance to Cockrell today! Super excited to move to Austin. Guess I’ve gotta start looking for an apartment now, haha.
Transfer GPA was 3.91 for reference, with all calculus prerequisites met.

Congratulations!! Did you apply for the summer or for the fall?

I was a Fall applicant. Application was finished sometime in early February (I know, I’m a slacker).

I am applying for Petroleum Engineering and i was wondering if it affects me that my cal 1 and cal 2 credits come from ib exam and not an actual in class grade. I currently have a 4.0 g.p.a but am nervous that it would discredit me because of the calculus requirements even though I have already completed cal 3 and differential equations

Congratulations @tentonshoes . For what major were you accepted?
