@jackpotgirl777 @Edirol Yeah, I’ll be headed to Berkeley.
If I won’t be done with IGETC until the end of the semester…do I still send it even though it’ll show up as impartial or in progress? Or should/can I just wait until the September 1st deadline?
@peachten you must send your transcripts twice - once before June 1st to show everything through your Fall grades and then again before July 1st to show your Spring grades and if possible, IGETC certification. https://www.admission.ucla.edu/NewBruins/Offl_Rec_Transfer.htm
@Edirol do they not have a non traditional tent set up at Bruin day?
Does anyone know how long before we find out about the Alumni Scholarship? Thanks guys!
@props
Didn’t you get an email? They said starting in late May and it will do rolling admissions.
@Happy2Help thank you for the clarification
There is a BIG push for UC alumni to grab a UC email address over at Berkeley - same spiel (for life). But why are they doing this? What is the motive for such a push? Even on LinkedIn they are pushing a commodity that will last for perhaps 60 years and have hundreds of thousands of ppl. Why? My take is they want a surge of people using it and after several years will institute an annual fee, which is fine, it’s a great way to get needed revenue. But odds are you will likely not use the UC email unless maybe reaching out to a UC connection because you’ll likely use your work email and might kind of look like a pretentious douche using the UC one forever. No one I know at UCB uses it much except for school, and the alumni I know, think it’s odd to use. So while it’s nice to have and is potentially usable in some situations, it’s not top on the list of perks IMHO. Probably might be used for donor purposes as well. Common sense says there IS a reason somewhere that they’re pushing this in the extreme.
@Ohm888 I know plenty of alumni who use their UC email as their main email. And to be honest when I was a manager at a studio and we were hiring, I tended to favor people whose email addresses were @UCLA.edu or @UCB.edu
I wouldn’t be surprised if other employers would have the same bias
I graduated UCLA last year at the ripe iodate of 38. There is a very strong non-trad network at UCLA. There’s a non-trad Facebook group and is a great source of info. I met some really great Bruins through this network. There’ll be non/trad tailgates, happy hours, study sessions, and just random meet ups. We are fewer in numbers, but it’s about quality not quantity. Old Bruins rock!
I have to go back and check. I don’t remember being sent an email about the alumni scholarships announcing in May. Thank you
A couple of questions here.
I submitted my summer financial aid form 2 days ago, does anyone know how soon they will responded with the aid?
Can I give my official and sealed transcripts to UCLA in person at Bruin Day this Saturday or do I have to mail them?
Finally, is there a deadline to submit my housing application for the summer?
Thank you guys!
I don’t think Admissions is open on Saturdays

@Happy2Help nice! great catch. thank you for the heads up.
@GirlPower1 their resumes and cover letters will note their university credentials, so for me, a UC email address is neither here nor there, unless, as I said, it was for UC alumni networking. But that’s great that you like it. For me, it’s not something I would use a lot - although I may rethink it at a later date.
What’s the chance of switching from psych into psychobio? I’m planning on doing the science classes and math necessary for the psychobio major anyway since I’m pre-med.
I’m gonna talk to the department once my academic session is over (finals are killing me)
@GirlPower1 by your own logic you would then be at a disadvantage when compared to a @stanford.edu or @harvard.edu domain name? Seems fickle to chose preferred candidates for a job based on an email address when their resume and references tell the full story.
Went back and checked my email from Ucla about the Alumni Scholarship. It does say rolling out starting May thru August. I didn’t read it except to see that they got my application. I need to read all this stuff from Ucla thoroughly. Thx!
@uisforutah no, I should’ve been more clear. I think using your school email, especially if it’s prestigious school like UCLA, Standford, etc helps you in the long run, I know a few people who ended up getting a lot of opportunities just because someone had noticed they went to a certain school. And I didn’t choose people based on their email, obviously, I just thought it was worth mentioning that if my first thought was “oh nice!” When I saw their email, it should be noted that other employers may think the same thing. Obviously using your school email won’t make you president or CEO, I thought it would be worth while to mention that people, like myself, may make a mental note or remember someone because they know where they went to school
@grimmghost I was thinking about switching from a psych to biopsych major for pre med but changed my mind after seeing the upper division requirements (This was 4 months ago). If you haven’t done most of the pre req classes For the biopsych major then I’d say don’t waste your time unless the major is part of the field you’re interested in. Just my opinion though, I was planning on taking pre reqs for med school after graduating from UCLA but plans changed lol.
@Panorama14
They sent me an email confirmation about 3 days after I submitted the financial aid form.
I think the housing application depends on which session you’re planning on attending. I thought apps were due April 30th so I submitted it early. They emailed me saying that housing decisions come out mid June. I’m taking summer session C.
Admissions office might not be open on Saturdays but perhaps you could look for the mailbox that they get mailed to? lol
