FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@intjer Lol not even. Most of my friends chose UCLA over Berkeley because of the sun, the LA opportunities, the quarter system, the girls, the well-rounded people, the Greek System, the Bruin Fam, Hollywood, the beaches, and more.

@solostish lol I was joking with the last line. I was actually settled on UCLA from the beginning tbh. I definitely fit in with the vibe at UCLA more so than Berkeley.
Most of those reasons that you listed are an ostentatious reason for picking a university though. Might as well go to Santa Barbara if you’re looking for that kind of atmosphere. Personally, im looking to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone and think that going to Berkeley will definitely do that.
I do agree that people are more well-rounded at UCLA, although I do admire the raw passion the crazy weird people at Berkeley have for their subject and the desire to change the world. I feel like I will have to work harder at Berkeley both academically and socially. Plus, it’s Berkeley. When it comes to picking a university, you’re ultimately trying to get the best education you can for your subject. Unless you’re majoring in psychology, wanting to go to medical school, or major in theatre/film, then yeah, hands down UCLA is better in that department. Just my opinion, everyone has it. My decision is Berkeley even though I didn’t think that id be choosing so… I’m sticking with it and not looking back. Either way, you will be getting a fantastic education, although mine will be slightly better :slight_smile:

@intjer I’m sensing some passive aggressive tension here. Transfer Day was okay. I suppose not all majors were the same, I got lucky and the mathematics table had an undergrad counselor when I went. Today felt generic and aimed at getting you to SIR, I thought it would be more orientation based…meh. The AAP people were nice enough to answer generic transfer questions. Anyways, enjoy UCB. :smiley:

@kamiture thank you :)!
You should be a psychology major. Haha jk. Good luck with your endeavors.

@intjer Never!! Haha, likewise. I totally get the dissatisfaction from today but that is life. Anyways, as long as you found your true campus , you can make your undergraduate degree any way you see fit!

I should stop being a motivational speaker.

At everyone else, I’ll post answers to my questions later.

Does anyone know how parking is in UCLA? Dont know if I want to drive there or take the bus…

A friend of mine goes there. She said parking is awful. She takes a bus. I’m driving from the valley. Does anyone know parking lots to park in surrounding ucla? Thx.

@Smj8542 all I’ve heard is parking horror stories. From what I was told, quarter parking passes sell out in less than 15 minutes and it still isn’t guaranteed that you’ll find a spot once you’re in the lot. I’m far enough that I sort of have to drive, but if the bus is easy for you then you should probably do that.

@props could you post anything you find out? I’m stuck commuting too and I’m looking for all possibilities. I’ll even take a bike and park a little ways away if I need to.

I’ll let you know if I find anything out. I’m in a situation where I have to drive as well. I heard the parking is a lottery and u apply then will get notified if you are lucky enough to have been selected from the lottery. Is that correct?

@props @Oldhopeful Guys this is a dilemma lmao some say its bad some say its not.
All i know is that you could get rejected if you live too close to UCLA (your area code cant be from Westwood), so you should appeal by saying that you need your car to go to school, work, etc. Ill be most likely commuting from koreatown -----_- that #BusLyfe doe

Anyone else here waitlisted and submitting a statement today?

Is anyone doing a summer sessions course?

I’m going to do the late summer session. Don’t know which class yet. Have u signed up for a class yet?

@wannabeflower
I’m planning to take session C, but I just don’t know what to take and prepare. lol. I guess I will have to attend orientation to learn more.

@nomee08
I’m planning on taking a class during session C as well! I emailed the summer sessions dept and asked if I can submit the summer financial aid application before enrolling, or if I need to be enrolled in order to submit the financial aid application. I also read that undergrad students are required to enroll in a minimum of 6 units to be eligible for summer aid, but the class I need is only 5 units. So, I guess i’ll have to send another e-mail asking if there is a way to bypass that minimum unit requirement, since there is no 1 unit that I can take as a GE, only upper division classes are 1 unit.

I’ve changed my mind; I will be SIRing to UCLA. See you guys in the fall!

@Smj8542 you’ve heard some say it’s not bad? I have yet to hear that from anybody, so that makes me feel a little better, haha. I’m a good 30 miles away, so I don’t think I have to worry about being too close, haha.

@props I heard that as well, but then someone at Bruin day told me that they sell out within fifteen minutes of going on sale. I’m not sure how that would be the case if it’s a lottery? Whatever it might be, the parking situation is my biggest stress at the moment.

When I got my acceptance letter from UCI, I SIR’d right away because I thought I would not get in UCLA. Now I got in UCLA, I can just contact UCI admissions and decline my SIR right?

@troubledcollegestudent I was in the same exact situation. I SIR’d to Irvine right away, but switched my SIR to UCLA. You can decline the offer for admissions on your UCI admissions login page regardless of whether or not you already SIR’d, and then wait a few hours and SIR to UCLA. You’ll lose the $100 SIR fee from UCI, though.

I know I’ve seen it somewhere before but I cannot seem to find it, can anyone provide me with a link or directions as to how to find out if admissions received my transcripts? Thank you.
