@Platosgooch
Does that mean you have a 4.0 and all pre-reqs satisfied for UCLA?
@Cayton Nah, I’m just messin’.
3.78 cumulative
3.89 transfer
3/4 prereqs by end of spring
6 years working as a firefighter, paramedic, and ER tech.
@Platosgooch
You should have no problem getting in.
Hi! I’m going to apply next year, but can anyone tell me is physics a competitive/impacted major in UCLA? Good luck to all and thanks in advance!
@ApricotWolf
No, it’s not.
Did anyone see this article that this year 119,000 students have applied for admission to UCLA, 22,000 being transfer students. Originally I thought that since they are accepting 5,000 more transfer students, this is would be a great year for trying to transfer to LA but now that it is the most applied to school, I am a bit worried that majors that are impacted will get even worse! What do you guys think? How will this affect acceptances?
Also I found it interesting that UCSD got more applications over UCB.
@sbccstudent19 I wonder if the thing about UCSD getting more applicants over UCB might be due to the cost of living in the bay area.
@sbccstudent19 It’s a 4.2% increase in transfer student apps. Not a big deal at all. Keep in mind the transfer window increased for transfer students, which naturally influenced more people to apply.
My guess is that admission won’t be much more difficult than it was last year. I’d love to see the 2015 transfer profile, but I don’t think it’s up.
It’s outstanding that they saw such a large increase in applications from POC - for black people particularly, enrollment numbers in the top UC’s, or even the UC’s in general, are disproportionately low.
@boxandwhiskers - Hmm, I didn’t think about that but you might have a point. I thought maybe because of their low acceptance rate - which might discourage some people from applying.
@goldencub - Very true, I guess reading the numbers startled me but that isn’t too much of an increase. I know, I am dying to see the Transfer Profile for 2015 but I heard it won’t be up until spring.
I agree about the increase in apps from people of color; hopefully that will lead to more acceptances and enrollment in the top UC’s.
Anyone want to chance me? My number one choice is UCLA and I am very worried that I will not get in.
I will only have 61 units after the spring because I have to take a statistics class and that will apparently (a counselor told me this, but I’m still not 100% sure it’s true) cancel out the units of another statistics class that I took two semesters ago. Will this hurt me at all?
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.95
IGETC: Done
Pre-reqs: Will be done by spring
Work: 30 hours a week as a nanny and 5 hours a week at a Law Firm
Activities: Tutoring, Church Volunteering, Volleyball Coaching, Theater volunteer. Nothing special.
Applied at: UCLA, UCSD and TAG to UCI
Personal Statements: Self graded 6/10
I should also hopefully be getting an Associates in University Studies with an emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences.
“Only 61 units”
Don’t worry, buddy. An applicant with 60 units is treated the same as an applicant with 100 (semester) units. I was at a Berkeley admissions seminar, and they clarified this for me (because I’m a one year applicant, so I’ll have 60.4).
I’d be shocked if you didn’t get in.
unless i’m wrong… UCLA actually received a 10.9% increase in transfer applications
UCLA isn’t my goal school, but I’m in the same boat as you @sbccstudent19! nervous!
@UCMtoUCSBHopeful Where did you read that?
Edit: I just checked the 2015 article - 20,063 transfer apps were submitted for Fall 2015. Over 22,000 were submitted for Fall 2016. If the numbers they gave are correct, then it’s definitely more than a 4.2% increase. ~9% at least.
@Mont2LA There’s no way you won’t get in.
Also, don’t sell yourself short. You have tons of extracurriculars (including your two jobs).
You might want to check assist.org to see if you actually need that statistics class. Is it for a major requirement, or was the other one non-transferable, or something? You shouldn’t have to take stats twice, unless there’s some weird caveat or articulation problem.
@goldencub I took Statistics of Behavioral Sciences or SOC 205 at one community college to satisfy my math requirement, but on assist, it says that the course I took is not articulated as the STATS 10 at UCLA, so I am taking Math 103 at a different community college that is articulated as STATS 10 at UCLA. My counselor said that even though they aren’t articulated as the same thing, the 4 units of SOC 205 will not be counted toward my 60 units because I am taking Math 103 and they are too similar. I hope that makes sense.
@goldencub - well i just found the percent change in applications and it came out to around 10%
but i’m skeptical as to whether these numbers are correct. idk if/how these numbers change but for example UCSB’s number of freshmen & transfer applicants differ from what UCOP releases to UCSB’s own admission guide
although UCLA does receive a lot of applications, as well as other UCs, it’s important to take into consideration that some of those transfer applicants (unfortunately for them) will not submit the TAU on time, some will fail to pass all their classes with the grades the UCs seek, units won’t be met, and whatever other reasons. so although there’s an increase in applicants, the admission process itself probably won’t change much/at all in terms of selectivity

@Mont2LA That makes sense. You might still get credit for the first class - it’s not entirely clear, but it’s good to assume you won’t, making sure that you’re definitely above the 60 unit minimum.
If there are any econ hopefuls, what are your stats like?
Psychology is gonna be so tough to get into this year This is my absolute last shot at getting into UCLA as an undergrad, may all Gods be with us, guys!
