Does anyone know if the schoolsapp is available for transfer admits yet?
@bigvoot I’m in the same situation choosing between ucla and Cal. I live in so Cal and the only reason I’m even considering berkeley is the prestige it carries. But then it’s like ucla is still really really prestigious. I’d be paying more money too attending berkeley. But then on the flip side it gives me a chance to experience the other side of cali and live on my own… And you’re being given the opportunity of a lifetime.
Ah… I picked UCLA CSE over UCB EECS ! I SIR’d. Everything’s going well but one thing: a parking permit.
I heard and researched about the parking permit and realize it’s hard to get it unless I have some sort of circumstances. I plan to live in Northridge – 15-20 miles away from UCLA.
If I can’t get the permit, I might go to school with a bike. I wonder what the maximum distance that can be reach with a bike for commuting regularly. I feel 15-20miles is def impossible. How do you guys think?? 5 miles max?
** I am a male with an average athletic ability if you need this info.
OR… is it really that hard to get a parking permit???
Did anyone who SIR’d to UCLA get a phone call from one of their students tonight?
@LynAmmo. Where did you see that you needed extra verification forms for your financial aid I’m kind of confused where. Or did you receive an email?

@fcb1010 they choose about a third of the FAFSA people to validate from what I understand
@fcb1010 When you go on myucla to view your financial aid, if it says “Your Provisional Award Letter is not available at this time” then click on the Financial Aid tab then click on Tracking Required Documents and it will let you know if you have to send something in.
@FaithGraceUC and @LynAmmo. Okay thanks so much I’m able to view my Financial aid amount so does that mean I should be good. I’m still going to check tho. We’re you guys able to view the amount of aid or not.
@cspoon1126 AYYYY I’m an anthro major too!! I was accepted to UCLA, and hopefully will be staying in the apartments as well!!
gotta love anthro majors!!
Guys I need your honest advice! I got into both UCLA and Berkeley for Civil Engineering. I’m transferring from a California Community College, and have finished all major prerequisites, but have NOT finished all my GEs for either school. I am also a musician living in SoCal. I’ve been playing for 11 years now and am 20 years old. Though I enjoy engineering, I want to at least try to pursue my music career right after graduating for a couple years around LA or so. Thus I would prefer to graduate faster, in order for me to start pursuing my musical dream. I am planning on continuing posting music videos each month, so I’d want a school where I’d have a little more down time. I have a few questions.
Questions:
- How long will it take me to graduate when I transfer to either school?
- Which campus life is better and why?
- Because I grew up in SoCal, I want to ditch my car and be able to walk most places. Which is better and why?
- Which schools offers better engineering courses (i.e more interesting projects, more hand-on, ect)?
- Which school would offer me more time to work on my music videos?
Thanks!
1- That is up to you. There have been transfers who finished in a single year at UCLA. If you’re a full-time student, meaning you’re taking 3 classes a quarter, you should finish up in 9 quarters. You just need to hit that 180 mark. Cal is on the semester system. I am guessing two years will also do the trick.
2- I was never a fan of Cal’s campus or its surroundings. Like yourself, I am from LA and LA has always been my home. I didn’t want to uproot my life to go to Northern California. Plus, you want to be in music industry, why would you want to leave LA? UCLA is on Sunset, and within a year or so when you’re old enough to enjoy the perks of Hollywood. Many UCLA students went out to Hollywood to party, you’ll probably make more connections there.
3- If you’re from LA why would you want to ditch your car? You’re in LA, we all need a car to get around town. Unless you want to take Uber, Lyft or the Metro, then that’s your prerogative.
4-Cal is ranked #3 in the country for its engineering school and UCLA is #11. At that point, I think you are splitting hairs.
5- Hu? What do you mean what school will offer you more time to work on your music videos? The answer is neither school will offer you anything like that. You make your time.
At the end of the day, visit both campuses and see what fits you best. Getting advice on a forum will only go so far. You need to make your own choice.
Anyone here get in for psychobiology?
Call the UCLA FA Office in the morning.

Help please:
Trying to choose between UCSD, UCLA, and Cal for premed. Major is biochem.
Any advice, insight, or suggestions? I know I’m going to work hard wherever I go, but some more input would be appreciated. Thanks
Have any of guys been able to make a UCLA email yet? Or is that something you’re able to do after you SIR? Im trying to get access to the housing page, but it requires a UCLA email!
Pretty sure you have to sir before applying for housing.
@jaleshaiker If you’re doing Engineering, you’ll be lucky to finish in 2 years. There are some courses being offered this summer that would make it easier for you to finish in 2 if you took them, namely CEE 101 and 108.
Just applied to housing. Those who have done it before, how do you get to see your profile and other potential roommates’ profiles?
