Is your admission offer official once you submit all required transcripts and documentation? If so, do you get an email or letter saying that you are officially admitted? Or is it just implied once you complete all of the requirements on your Admission Contract?
If you guys have Facebook, I highly recommend joining the Facebook group titled “UCLA Fall 2017 Transfer” which is why this thread isn’t as populated, a good majority are on Facebook.
@lucidday the payment that’s due on the 27th is out of pocket, not covered by financial aid. There is a waiver but the waiver is only for students who essentially have an expectancy of $0 family contribution
@jrobles88 If you were on the waitlist, I’m not really sure how it works I’m sorry If you weren’t on the waitlist, then you accepted your admission offer when you SIRed on the MyUCLA website and submitted your documentation.
@uclahopeful2017 – Don’t worry, they reserve seats for every enrollment period, so you should be able to get the classes you want. Definitely make a list of alternate classes, though.
@backbeat9 do you remember if the waiver was tacked onto another page or with another application? I have a family contribution of 0 and I’m actually paying off some bills for them so it’s really a family contribution of -600
@jaleshaiker and @Negative273c Thank you for your advice and it does help me. I’m taking CS and phys sci in summer right now hopefully get good grades on those and boost my GPA for a bit. By the end of fall, I should almost complete 99% of the major requirement and I hope I can bring up my GPA as much as I can.
One of the english classes that I wanted for fall says its completely full, as do a few other classes say they have 2-3 spots left. Does that mean that they are closed completely, or are we (transfers) able to get into these “closed” classes when signing up at orientation? Also, does anyone know roughly how many spots they reserve per orientation?
They are closed to the point until the professor says otherwise. As I have mentioned previously, it is important to continue to keep your eye on the classes you want. They are updated in real-time, so if an opening occurs, you can register. However, don’t over-stress the issue of a class filling up.
Also, a professor will post a waitlist, it will be up to 5 students(Or they could even add more), the professor will give those students a PTE# and you will get your spot. If you are desperate for a course, just go to the first class and speak to the professor and see what they say. More times than not, they’ll tell you to wait it out but in the meantime, you should have other classes you’re already registered for. If you get in, then you can drop those classes.
Unfortantunley transfers are basically at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to priority. Students with disabilities/athletes get priority, then seniors and finally juniors. Look outside of English courses, the History department offers a variety of fantastic course you can take just to add up on units. You’re not obligated to merely take English courses. If you’re going to take 3 courses, take two English courses and 1 elective. It could be a course in French or Italian literature(The readings and lectures are in English and they have a similar feel to an English course.) Don’t force the issue in taking a class you do not want just because it is going towards your major.
Hi, just want to make sure I’m taking a class that I should be during this summer session (A). I’m an English major and completed all of my lower division coursework at my CC prior to transfer, but I am currently enrolled in ENGLISH 179 at ucla. I saw that some of the requisites for the course were classes specifically offered at ucla (ENG 10A, 10B, 10C), but since I’m a first time student at ucla I did not take those but took these lower division courses at my CC. Is this ok? Probably should have made sure before I enrolled lol.
@uclahopeful2017 – Did you look at your DAR? Click on ‘Academics’ on your UCLA site, click on Degree Progress/Audit Report, and then click Continue to DARS. Once you’re there, click on ‘Run Audit’ and then view it. Scroll down to English BA/Preparation for the Major, and click on the little arrow to expand it. If you have completed equivalent courses of 10A, 10B, and 10C at your CC, there will be a green checkmark next to it.
Hope that helps!
If you’ve done all your prereqs at CC, you should be fine. Before I transferred I took equivalent courses to 10A-C and didn’t have to take it at UCLA.
@Edirol I just looked at my dar and it says I’m missing a lot of things but I think it might be because they haven’t input my final transcripts, at least this is what I’m hoping
Hey guys, how long after acceptance does it usually take for your aid letter to appear? I just got off the waitlist but I can’t make an informed decision without looking at aid. If it isn’t significantly cheaper, I will probably stay at the school I SIRd to. Do they only let you see it after you actually deposit? If that’s the case, that’s a tad jacked up lol
@uclahopeful2017 – If it says you’re missing a bunch of stuff then yeah, I guess they haven’t updated it yet. You can also go to assist.org and see if the English courses at your CC are equivalent to 10A, B & C.
It is perhaps best you do take a laptop. You’re going to register for your classes that day(end of the day). You can do it on your Smartphone but take your laptop if you have one.
I do not believe there are reserved spots for transfer students for transfer students. If the classes are full, they’re full(for the time being). Students with disabilities, student athletes get priority, then seniors and so on.
