FALL 2018 UCI Irvine Official Transfer Thread

UC Irvine does not provide early admission evaluation or early admission decisions as part of its
TAG program. Once you apply to UC Irvine for transfer admission, we will review your TAG and
notify you of your transfer admission status by the end of April. It is important to remember that in
order to maintain your TAG eligibility, you must meet the following conditions:

 • Complete all required coursework with the minimum GPA, including course prerequisites, for
your chosen major by the end of spring 2018 (view major preparation requirements at
    http://www.admissions.uci.edu/applicants/transfer_preparation.html);

If you guys click on that link, then from the website go to the section (School Of Social Ecology). Under there should indicate the major preparation requirements I need to complete for (Psychology And Social Behavior) major. It looks like there are no required courses to complete regarding my tag contract.

Even on assist.org it says I do not need to complete courses as a transfer student. My transfer counselor told me he’s certain about it, and that I will then have to take the courses in UCI.

Well, hope that is true!!! What do you guys think???

Has anyone already submitted their application?

I just submitted my last Thursday ^^

I have a TAG question: does anyone know if I HAVE to enroll in Spring courses at my CC to not be disqualified for TAG? I didn’t see anything about this but I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything. I completed over 60 units, IGETC, and all my major pre-reqs, and nothing else will knock any UCI courses off my list so i don’t see the point in taking classes that won’t do anything for me unless I have to. My GPA is above the required TAG GPA as well. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I was in the exact same boat last year and I got into UCI for Psych & Social Behavior and am currently switching that to my minor so my major can be Public Health Sciences! Feel free to ask me any questions!

@futureanteater97 Thank you so much!!

May i ask if you were accepted by your main major or alternative?

Does anyone know if it is possible to switch your major after you have been accepted as a transfer? I applied for Psychology and put Public Health Policy as my alternate. However, I was thinking of switching to Pharmaceutical Sciences. I will have a semester of general biology and a semester of general chemistry completed prior to transfer (I need two semesters of each for Pharm Sci). With that said, I have some major pre-reqs under my belt already.

@Piktuto I was accepted to my first choice as Psychology and Social Behavior because my lower science GPA made me ineligible to apply as a Public Health Major.

@xyz789 It is completely possible since they allow transfers 3 years or 9 quarters to finish their degree at UCI. I was accepted as a PSB major and am currently switching to public health sciences. It is a bit of work because, even if you have most of the pre-reqs done at your CC, there are some upper div reqs you’ll need to take in order to be in the major. I strongly recommend looking into switching your major as soon as your accepted - don’t wait until the school year starts. Take as many pre-reqs and lower divs needed for pharm as you can at your CC and then, once you’re accepted, there is an option in the UCI portal to switch majors.

@futureanteater97 Thank you for the answer!

My major is different, but I was curious to see if someone got into UCI with an alternative major.

Fingers crossed…hopefully I can get in.

Hey guys! How is UCI with D grades? My friend’s not doing so well in one of her sciences and thinks she might end the semester with a D, which means her TAG will be confiscated. Do you think she still has a chance to get accepted through normal admittance? She’s gotten straight A’s and B’s previous semesters; this will be her first bad grade. I thought this would be the perfect place to ask, any input would be greatly appreciated!

I believe her predicted GPA would be a 3.35ish

Hey guys! It’s bittersweet that applications are in. I am hopeful to get into UCI but I am a bit disappointed in myself because my fall grades are not what I planned to have due to personal circumstances.
I’m on borderline B’s for two of my prerequisite classes (Ochem and bio 94) and there’s a possibility my TAG will be denied.
If anyone can give insight of what my chances are to getting in I would wholeheartedly appreciate it! Also, does anyone know how much admissions care about your fall grades?

My Stats:
Major: Biological sciences (alt is Public Health Policy).
Major Pre-Req: Will be completed by spring (did not do physics because it was only recommended).
UC Transferable GPA: Right now is 3.61, but I predict will be 3.4-3.37 after this semester :frowning: chance me?
Tag: applied

@matchamilktea Is this science class required for her to transfer?

Can she take a W?

@pharmdream I applied last year general admission with a 3.4 and got denied. I talked to a counselor down there this year and the usual transfer GPA accepted is a 3.6. My app was great last year too but the GPA counts so heavily :frowning:

@Piktuto No, if she drops now it’ll be an automatic F. & it’s not a requirement, she could have taken it after transfer, but she wanted to get it over with!

@linzcath do they look at grade patterns? my friend is a consistent a/b student, but this one d grade will bring her gpa down

CCC transfer (Nearest UC to me is UCSD)

60 UC-transferable credits
GPA 3.9 (3.93 after fall 2018)
Major: Political Science
Pre-Reqs: All finished by spring.

ECs: political campaign internship, VP of Democrats club for one year, and working part-time for 3 years.

I’m a first-generation, low-income student, also. I’m very confident in my essays, and I believe they’ll reflect my application positively.

IGETC: Completed

@linzcath Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. Thank you for the feedback though, I’m still hopeful.
Was your gpa 3.4 by the time you applied or after fall? And what was your major?

@matchamilktea From what I know, they do pay attention to your grade patterns. If she gets a D in the course, she should explain it when the fall update comes in January.

@pharmdream true true. thanks for the input! i appreciate it
