FALL 2018 UCI Irvine Official Transfer Thread

@matchamilktea Seems like people beat me to answer your question  I am happy to see more and more people on here. It was pretty dead LOL

I have a question. On the Transfer Requirements By School for environmental science it says that you must “Complete one year of general chemistry with laboratory (preferred) OR one year of biology with laboratory with a minimum GPA of 3.0”. I have taken Chem and will have over a 3.0 in that course but i have also taken Bio and i may have under a 3.0 for that which would bring my overall GPA for all four courses to something below a 3.0 required. So my question is, will they count bio and chem or just one of the series since it says pick one OR the other?

@matchamilktea Hi! I was also in that boat - I got a D in one of my Bio classes and my TAG was voided but I still got in! I definitely recommend retaking the class to pass because it will not only recover your GPA, but also show UCI that you are tenacious and learned from your mistakes and improved which is a characteristic I believe they really value - improvement. It will show on your transcript as an Academic Renewal but they will be glad to see you improved the grade. I think many people, such as myself, believe TAG is our only sure-fire way to get in but that really is not the case - my GPA was on the lower side (3.3) and I still got in as a Psych major and because I took so many bio/chem classes at my CC, I was able to switch to Public Health Sciences. If your friend’s TAG is void, she can definitely still apply competitively and still has a shot making it in

@pharmdream Hi! I think you have a very strong shot of getting in despite your Fall grades; they definitely look at the GPA holistically from each semester even though this most recent one might hurt your overall GPA, your GPA is still competitive and I believe as long as you had solid personal statements/activities and an overall good application, you’ll be fine!

Hi, did anybody receive this message at your admission website to agree these conditions? I TAG for SE and alt CS

1. The university may offer you admission in an alternative major, either as noted on your application or in another alternative major.
2. All applicants must submit complete and accurate information in their original UC Application:
    ◦ This includes listing ALL college (transferable and non-transferable) course grades and courses taken for the correct respective terms for admission consideration by the filing deadline.
    ◦ If you have repeated college courses, applicants must report the original and repeat grades and all colleges attended. This includes college courses taken while in high school.
3. If you are admitted, please be aware that your admission is provisional. Information on your application must accurately match official documents submitted on your behalf, including your successful completion of the courses you listed on your application upon which your admissions offer was based, and information provided in the Transfer Application Update (TAU) report.  The priority deadline for the Transfer Academic Update site is January 31, 2017 for fall 2017 consideration.
4. Please ensure you complete your audition(s) and meet supplemental application deadlines if either are required for the major you have selected.
5. Please maintain an accurate email address at all times. Email is the means used to notify you when your status has changed in your MyAdmission account or a message has been posted.
6. If you are admitted and decide to attend UCI, use MyAdmission to monitor required documents and important next steps, and verify receipt of documents by viewing the MySchools, MyTests, and MyInfo menu tabs.

Remember to frequently log in to MyAdmission to obtain current information about your admission status, verify important details about your record, update your contact information, and correspond with your admissions counselor.

Hey Guys !
Does anyone have any idea about how impactful missing required pre-requisites for civil engineering can be ? I’m currently missing two pre-requisites ( Statics and Engineering Graphics ) and even registered at a different college to try and get the courses I wanted but still couldn’t. I think engineering graphics was added as a prerequisite last year so I couldn’t fit it into my schedule. I expect a 3.57 GPA ( 3.35 major GPA ) at the end of the Fall semester and have completed all prerequisites other than the above 2 along with IGETC ( I know its not a requirement but still  ). Thanks !

@omarito I believe this message pops up for everyone.

I have no tag to UCI, but I was able to see the same exact thing as you did.

@futureanteater97 that gives her so much hope T_T thank you for your input!

I haven’t received my MyAdmission log-in info yet and I TAGd here, has anyone else not received their info yet either?

@gonewiththeair well according to the UC twitter account “Within 4-6 weeks after Nov. 30, each campus you apply to will email you to set up an account on its admissions student portal.”

or try this.

https://services.admissions.uci.edu:8443/cgi-bin/myadmission.cgi

By using your UC application ID and the email address used in the application. This should send your UCI student ID number!

@Piktuto I think I will do that, thank you! I didn’t think I’d have gotten it yet but it seems like some people already have so I wasn’t sure

did everyone else receive the email to activate their portals/when did y’all receive it? i just got mine yesterday

@matchamilktea still waiting on mine! Did you TAG to Irvine?

@gonewiththeair indeed i did!

@matchamilktea Ah, okay! Still waiting on mine, but if I haven’t heard by mid-January I’ll probably call them!

I was worried about the same thing because all the other UC’s have got back to me except UCI so I am
concerned if my application went through. I know when I submitted my application, it says “all received” for each campus.

I guess I will wait until January as well after new years (:

was this because bio is such a competitive major? :frowning:

@Christinesoh I don’t think so! I applied as a political science major and I submitted a TAG to UC Irvine so I don’t think it has to do with the major. It might have to do with when you submitted your application, though- I submitted mine the day after Thanksgiving so pretty late.

@lovelei What are you missing, if you don’t mind my asking?

MAJOR: Informatics
TAG: Yes (over 60 units completed)
GPA: 3.55
IGETC: Complete
MAJOR PREP: Requires stats and 1 year of programming courses. Completed Stats, Java, C++, Data Structures, and C#. Also took two more CSIT courses just to help, and I’m taking other programming courses in Spring but they are not UC transferrable.

I’m a re-entry student, I read the TAG requirements 50 times but of course I’m still paranoid about it. I really hope I get in.
