FALL 2018 UCI Irvine Official Transfer Thread

Hello guys,

I am cs major and did TAG. Today, I found out that today my major is cs and engineering, not cs in my UCI portal. So I changed back to CS major.

i know that it is very late to change it, but do you guys think I can still get into TAG system? or even rejected to UCI cuz of this problem? Please let me know if someone made a mistake like me.

Thanks!.

I GOT IN with regents scholarship and honors to honors
GPA: 3.90
Major: Pre-Cognitive Science/Psychology
Tag: Yes!

@darkarchang3l yikes, my username clearly gives away my biggest weakness :stuck_out_tongue:

@jlan97 I didn’t do a major change last minute, but I did request one two weeks ago and they approved my request the same day a bunch of people got accepted. I did TAG though so I do think it pushed back when I get notified.

@pleaseacceptme99 where did you see the honors to honors?

@matchamilktea haha it’s all good! we can boba buddies!!! XD

@darkarchang3l YES, down! :3

@pleaseacceptme99 how did they contact you about the Regent’s scholarship?

@rorschwack What major did you change to and from? Was the major you changed into similar to the one you changed from and were you missing any Major Transfer Courses shown on Assist? And how long did it take them to approve the request? And have you gotten an admission letter yet?

@matchamilktea we shall conquer the world one boba at a time!!! ^O^

Here’s a little background of my application. I am an anthropology (BA) major with a 3.56 transferable gpa. I am TAP certified. I have decent EC’s but what stands out about my application in my opinion are my personal statements. I talked about having a stutter when i was younger and overcoming it, landing a role on a hit TV show called The Walking dead and using that money to help my mother with expenses, and the death of my father. I had a semester of all W’s due to taking a medical withdrawal because of the passing of my father from brain cancer. (I talked about that in my personal statements) I also had two incomplete’s due to this, (one for my major). However, I completed the courses and received an A in both of them. When I was filling out my application in the fall, I listed the two courses as an “incomplete” and put in the additional comments section that I made up the two courses and will be receiving an “A” in both classes by spring. (I was just waiting for the grade to be submitted by my professors). So during the transfer academic update I listed in the additional comments that both Incomplete’s were completed with a grade of an A. I do

Going into the application process, I was confident that I would get into at least one school. I was only worried about not getting into my #1 school, UCLA. But even then i thought, i had a slight chance because im TAP certified with an alternative major of gender studies. I received my first admissions from UCSB and I was rejected. I’m very shocked because Santa Barbara was honestly my safety school/least competitive school to get into in my opinion. I checked the 2017 admitted statistics for UCSB and the average GPA range admitted was 3.1 - 3.7 with a 70 percent admit rate. I’ve heard that UCSB is very strict on applicants finishing their math before the spring semester. Im currently taking statistics and am in progress, so perhaps thats a big factor in not getting in.

Now that I received my first letter and was rejected to UCSB, that makes me 0/1. Im starting to think to myself that if i didn’t get into my safety school that i may not end up getting admitted anywhere at all. Can you guys chance me? Do i have any shot at getting into UCI, UCSD, let alone UCLA as my alternative major? Everything seems like a long shot now and im pretty sad. The good news is at least now i have no expectations of getting in anywhere, so i wont be as disappointed

UPDATE: I just called UCSB admissions and they said that the only reason I didn’t get in was because my statistics class was in progress. This gives me some hope because I know UCSB is very strict on completing math prerequisite before the spring, hopefully I get in somewhere! UC Irvine is my #2

@Flurkz you will get into UCI, their 2017 average admit rate for anthropology is 3.16-3.70 with an 80% acceptance rate

Honestly, are there anybody got acceptance for Biomedical Engineering so far?

Do you guys know if UC’s calculate your Major GPA based only on courses before the Transfer Academic Update? Or do they also look at winter and spring. Because my Major GPA is 2.6 from the update, but will be over a 3.0 after winter quarter And how crucial is the Major GPA? my overall is 3.71 (major is Comp Sci)… tons of extracurriculars, prereq’s and igetc will be done… I had health issues last year, hence my low Major GPA, and I discussed that in the application. Have a very positive grade trend, so at least that.

how does celebrate uci day work?

@AyGrey Same story as you kinda. I know they don’t look at spring of course but they will pull up your winter grades if they need it for more info/as a reference.

@Trieuce But the problem is that I cannot submit my winter grades, I only finish winter quarter by April 1st  What do I do then?
