Fall of 2016 Applicants

@vs1997 thanks! My son is an auto-admit, but is going for ChemE + Plan II, so just I’m curious how long he’ll have to wait to hear back. Hopefully, he’ll be the first wave of responses.

I’m gonna apply for the health science honors program along with an intended major of neuroscience. So, what y’all are saying is that by applying to an honors college, you receive a faster notification whether you have been admitted? I’m curious.

An out-of-state applicant here. When you say all three essays, does that mean you’re doing Topic C and two of the other essays? My interpretation is that you should do C, then pick either A or B (unless you are applying for Architecture or have special circumstances, in which case you’d do D or S, respectively.) I’ve written Topic C and Topic B essays. I didn’t believe that A would then be optional to add.

I don’t know if that is the case or not. I am just looking at last year’s thread and what was reported here. Those who post in CC are a minuscule percentage of those who apply so whether you can draw that conclusion is debatable.

There is an early decision type deadline for honors programs (October 15). If you are qualified, you will be notified of that honors program earlier (not sure when). But if you are not qualified or borderline for your school, I am not sure it increases the speed with which you are notified.

Thanks @gettingschooled
I forgot that CC is not every persons experience, oh well, I was just wishing for a speedy admissions decision

@psywar The Class of 2019 ChemE applicants didn’t find out their major until the last wave of admissions in February. Have your future Longhorn choose a second choice major very carefully. ChemE is extremely competitive and I know some highly qualified auto-admit applicants did not get into the program.

Just logged in and my S’s status changed to complete/ on-time. Went to the admission tab and at the top it says “Good news! you qualify for automatic admission to the university of Texas at Austin. We’re not sure about your major yet.”

Now we wait some more.

@gettingschooled same message here, son’s application submitted on 9/9/15

@FloMoMom Thanks for the warning. His second choice major is Plan II. Our son is all in, or nothing with regards to UT. Either he gets ChemE AND Plan II or he will end up elsewhere. While he is a very high stats kid, as you said there is no guarantee. Pile on Plan II’s very subjective admissions and I’d say he has a 25% chance of being a Longhorn. Fingers crossed, I think the combo of Plan II and Engineering would satisfy his near insatiable hunger for knowledge, and my wife would love for him to be only 45 min away from our home (she thinks he’ll come by for dinner more often)…

My son is OOS and now when I log in it says his app is “in review.” This seems kind of early, unless it says this for the next couple of months. I think the other schools don’t say that until a decision is coming within a few days/weeks, when I thought UT didn’t release anything until at least December, like it says above. Anybody else’s says this?

Your app will be in review until UT makes a decision…so it could be for several months.

My son’s applications for admission and business honors both say “in review.”

From experience, we know that it can stay at the “in review” stage for months.
He’s our first one to apply to BHP so, that might speed a decision up to December.
Our other students had to wait until February to hear back. They were review applicants for engineering.

@PokeyJoe My son has applied to ChemE and Plan II. If, by some great luck, he is admitted to Plan II in the late November / early December time-frame (1st wave), would they let know know at that point he was admitted to Plan II, or do they hold announcing anything until the engineering majors are figured out (later next year)?

@psywar My best guess is that it would depend on your son’s stats. The only time I have heard of a prospective engineer finding out early is when the stats were so high, there was no question that they would fall at the very top of the spectrum.
The waiting comes from UT wanting the top candidates in the applicant pool.

@pokeyjoe thank you for the reply, I think his stats are good to go, but we’ll see. (Early) College Apps = hurry up and wait…

@psywar I think your son’s admission decision for Plan II will be completely separate from Engineering. So yes, if he is admitted to Plan II, you could know in December, but still be waiting to hear about ChemE.

My son’s status moved from complete to in review as well. I’m guessing it will be a few months before we get a decision.

For auto-admits, as we wait for honors and majors, what’s next? We have an “active” housing application, I guess that means we paid our $50 to stand in line. But since honors housing requires a major (I think) does that mean that it is some of the last housing dealt with?

@psywar Your $50 housing application fee holds your place in line. Housing assignments are based on the date of housing application, so you’re good. It’s early so he will probably get his first or second choice of housing. After your son is admitted to UT, accepts the offer (pay the enrollment deposit), he will be eligible to be offered a housing contract. Pay that deposit, then you can submit housing preferences - which includes the Honors Quad. Housing preferences can be submitted/changed until July 1, so you have plenty of time to figure it all out. Good luck.
