Is it possible to be admitted into honors but not ut?
@liberalguy97 I don’t think so, here is a post from a UT insider that discuss this issue: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/12018691/#Comment_12018691
Admitted to Cockrell School of Engineering this fall 2015 and I wasnt auto. I received my acceptance on february 19! I gotta say, these first semester classes for engineering are very time consuming and some are pretty hard. Weed out courses essentially
@vs1997 could you list the courses you feel are weed outs? My son has lots of AP credits and knowing what to avoid would be helpful. Thx!
@psywar I would def say for engineering, weed out courses are M408D (second year calc, so Calc BC equivalent) and both engineering physics (PHY303K and PHY303L) I decided to take calc 1 again even though I got credit for calc AB. If he is going into engineering, I would highly recommend that he take Calc 1 instead of jumping to Calc 2, because I have heard that it is incredibly difficult, because you go more in depth than high school. Also, as I am in M408C, I have to say that it is super easy and very simple to get an A in the class if he comes in with Calculus knowledge. Classes that I recommend claiming credits for are English I, Chemistry I (unless you are a chemical engineering major), Government, US History, stuff like that… that may not actually pertain to your major
@vs1997 thanks! He is in Calc3 at local CC, but it is something we need to chew on, do you retake Calc1 for a good grade / better foundational knowledge. He has an A in Calc 3 currently, but we are uncertain how Austin CC compares to TAMU in terms of rigor…
I am also applying to Eng (EE, but maybe want to change to ChE) + Plan II as as OOS student. All is complete except waiting on recommendations from my school. My app says complete as the recs are “optional.” Shouldn’t be an difference in wait time–of whatever wave–between in-state and OOS, right?
My application is now in review! Here comes the hard part
Yes @psywar i already took calculus I but am taking it again to build a strong foundation. strongly recommend he do the same.
The admissions will begin rolling out in December guys! Don’t worry!
If you are automatically admitted, when do you find out about your major?
I applied for neuroscience, which is a competitive major. So when do you think I would find out?
@wardroger000 Some people will find out in December before Christmas break, but a lot of folks won’t hear until February. My son was an auto-admit with excellent stats and didn’t get accepted into the environmental science major until Feb. 18 of 2015, even though he’d gotten his automatic admission way back in Sept of 2014.
@collegefind Thanks! The anticipation is just so hard, but I guess I’ll live with it. Congrats on your son, environmental science is AWESOME!!
My son is an automatic admissions to TAMU based on his class rank and SAT scores (1460/1600) and top 11% of his class. He is not an auto admit to UT. His scores were sent to UT in August, as was his high school transcript. He just submitted his application and essays two days ago (Oct 13). His status says to check back later. Nothing shows up yet. I am assuming they will link up his scores and transcript with his application. Any thoughts?
He has applied for Mechanical E degree. He has taken physics 1 awhile back in summer school because he was going into IB as a Jr. He has taken the gateway engineering classes from 8th-10th. Then IB classes took over. At the end of his Jr year, we was one of 100 district students to apply for an internship during his Sr. Year. He was one of 13 who received an internship to the largest aerospace engineering company in the world. Doing so, he had to quit IB and go back to AP. He is taking another physics in the form of physics 4, skipping 2-3 and is pulling a high C. He has not taken any AP test to date because of IB so he will take as many as he can this year. He has also been on the drum line since a freshman in Marching band and wind symphony, a section leader the past 2 years and UIL Math team.
He has a lot going for him but his rank hurts him but he had one not so good six weeks his Jr year that brought down his class rank. He’s concerened about his chances of being accepted and getting his major. If he does not, he will go to TAMU, where he has been told 85% of auto admits for engineering are accepted into the school. If worse comes to worse, he has been admitted into the engineering school at UT Arlington.
My S had his scores and transcript loaded as soon as we logged in. If I were you, I would give them a call tomorrow and ask. The people on the phone have been very helpful when I call. They may be able to link it for you.
Make sure he has his TAMU application done. It is not that 95% of auto admits get into engineering, it is that they fill engineering first come first serve with auto admits until they hit 85% and then they review holistically for engineering majors. If he gets his application in early (as in now), he’ll get engineering.
As far as chances for Cockrell, it will depend on how well he explained that internship. Cockrell is very competitive.
Question-- I am currently top 9% at my high school (as of the end of junior year) and we work on a semester system, meaning that our first quarter is ending next week and we will get a transcript for this quarter. My GPA for this quarter is significantly better than my current GPA and I am pretty sure I can bump up to top 8%. If I send in my transcript from this quarter at top 8%, am I eligible as an automatic admit??
Thank You. Yes, he submitted the TAMU application yesterday but still has to finish one essay that has a different prompt. That will be finished and uploaded by tomorrow or Sat latest. We are waiting for letters of recommendation from teachers/his boss at internship and hope to have them end of next week as well as extended resume.
@aspiringsenior05 I recommend that you submit the current transcript now. If your new transcript shows a better class rank, submit that one later. You will be eligible for automatic admission if your class rank is 8.0% (not rounded) or better. They don’t round and they will auto-admit any rank better than 8.1%.
When do we get notification for honors programs? (Plan II and Liberal Arts)
