fall registration?

it seems like a lot of seats are filling up for fall classes. why? are honors students or seniors registering now?

how quickly do fall honors courses fill up?

i was told to send an email to honors with my course schedule, but i might not be able to decide fully on a schedule until the end of june (i'm taking a CLEP test for spanish at the end of june, so i won't be able to know which spanish class to take in the fall until then). would honors and upper division classes be filled up by then?

in general, if a certain class has all of its sections filled up before registration officially opens for freshmen, does FSU add more sections?

jw

oh, well i guess pretty much all current students have registered for classes: [Florida State University Registrar](http://registrar.fsu.edu/dir_class/fall/registration_windows.htm)

so that means that whatever classes have open seats should have open seats until the registration window opens again, right? well, except for incoming honors FTIC students, since they can email honors for the courses they want.

All current students have registered. Entering freshman honors students in years past have not have priority registration until they were actually enrolled. A freshman entering as an honors students for Summer/Fall used to start priority registration in the Spring. Perhaps things have changed given instructions you received to email them. I am not certain they will register honors freshman based on that email, but they might open up seats if they see they are needed.

As you attend orientation for fall, the registrar opens your “window” to register for that time during the final day when you are assigned a time to register. It closes again until July when it opens for everyone for fall. In July when the window is open you can then check every day to see if a seat opens up. There is a lot of movement as grades come up for the first summer session, as AP and IB and CLEP results come back, and as students change their mind or their major.

If you are look at Course Lookup on the Registration Tools, check out the full schedule of classes by unchecking the “open sections only” box. If you see sections with 0 seats offered and 0 seats filled, it is a section that might possibly open up if all other sections fill.(Contrast that to 25 seats offered and 25 seats filled, that is a full section.)

As each freshman orientation ends, more and more seats will be taken, so you will see seats reduce until the last orientation session. Then if there are open seats, they will generally still be there when the window opens again in July.

wait im confused…does that mean that if you’re an incoming FTIC honors freshman…you can email them about what schedule you want so that seats can be reserved? or something?

I would call honors. If you can send an email for early registration, it is new this year. In years past, all incoming freshman registered at orientation, with the only difference being honors students could take honors seminars or honors specific classes, with priority registration starting Spring term.

well that’s what the associate director for honors told me. she said that when i come up with a schedule for fall, to email honors, and they will get me registered for fall courses.

when i was at orientation, we could only register for summer classes. so we can’t register for fall classes until july 13th whereas later orientations can register for fall earlier than that? it seems kind of unfair.

i’m coming in with an AA, so i don’t have as many courses to choose from.

maybe i should email honors right now and put down elementary spanish I. then if i pass the spanish CLEP, i can email honors asking them to drop spanish I and add a higher spanish class or i could wait until july 13th to add/drop.

Perhaps your case is different since your have your AA.

Usually freshman starting summer register only for Summer C at their orientation, and freshman students starting fall register for fall. Summer freshman get to register for fall in July when the window opens. Honors freshman get priority registration starting Spring. Otherwise they register the same.

Freshman who earned an AA while dual enrolled are a hybrid student. Technically when you applied you were FTIC. But once you earned your AA you became what I would call a FTIC Junior. I suspect that is why they are letting you register via email. The rest of the typical honors student, even those with loads of AP and IB credit still register during their orientation for summer or fall, not both.

I emailed them with my schedule, and they told me to wait until I get CLEP scores before giving them my schedule, which I figured is what would happen. But I’d still get to register before July 13th. I just hope freshmen orientation students don’t take up the classes I want for Fall. lol
