Should my family be doubting that I'll get accepted into USC and UCLA? I mean yeah, my ACT score is low but a little encouragement would be nice. My GPA, EC's, and essays are good. I'm not letting this bring me down or anything, it's actually driving me a bit to show up my parents...

Without knowing the numbers, it’s hard to tell…
But my family is doubting I’ll even get into some of my safeties… So I know what that’s like.

I think your parents might realize how hard it is to get into those schools and don’t want you to get your hopes set on them. Of course it would be great if you do get in them and they will probably be just as happy as you. No one wants to see their child disappointed or in pain.

By the way, my daughter is applying to 11 schools and USC and UCLA plus one other are the reach (unlikely) ones. We have discussed it and I think she will get 8 acceptances. If she gets more, she will be ecstatic. If not, she will still have a hard time choosing because she has liked them all that we have visited. Some of them we will wait and visit if accepted.

Her rough stats - 3.9 uw, 4.1 w, act 33, good ec’s and i think recommendations. Essay ok. Her weak spot is her lack of course rigor (only 1 AP and 2 honors). For what its worth, her brother a few years ago had lots of rejections. The ‘highest’ school he got in was what we
thought was a safety. So we have adjusted our expectations quite a bit.

Good luck to you both and I hope to read positive outcomes in a few months!

@jbourne thanks, good to get an opinion from a parent. I agree that I have slim chances of getting in but I don’t want to quit either.

@ivycoolz2 thanks… =3

It’s good to have goals but also be honest with yourself. Make sure you find a safety that you are perfectly comfortable with and will give an acceptable fin aid package.

@Rob1995 I understand, that the probability of me getting to the two schools is low, sadly. I have 3 safety schools that I got accepted to and received full rides to already actually, ASU, NAU, and Grand Canyon University (easiest school to get into since my school is supported by it)
