For those in the know...is it wiser to send my son to Indoc with a fan or wait to find out if he is indeed in a sweltering room? I was told by KP that he can just purchase one in the Ship's Store. My concern is whether he would really be able to get to the store to even make a purchase during Indoc. I also hate to have him lug a fan all the way from Las Vegas only to find he won't need it. What would you vet parents have to offer in the form of advice?

Seems to be mixed reviews here. We are flying in as well. S will be taking a turbo desk fan. If he needs larger one he can get from campus store, or buy one off a midshipman no longer using theirs. If he does not need one then his thoughts are, he can sell or donate his to someone not fortunate enough to have air.

The end (or is it the beginning) is drawing near. :)

Agreed, but the word I'm getting is to take the fan. It's better to be prepared than to die in the heat. LasVegas has heat, but until you've experienced East Coast heat (with the 95% humidity), than you've not experienced heat! We bought a small desktop turbo fan that could almost fit in a small airline carry-on bag, so it won't be that much of a problem lugging around.

Thanks Ladies! Well that settles it. Better to be prepared than not. I totally agree about humid heat vs desert heat. Its sort of rough on us desert dwellers when we are slammed with the wall of humidity. Its a completely different thing! Even if he is fortunate enough to land in an air conditioned room, the fan can still be an asset!
