I applied early action as business major with the intention of being a direct admit into the Farmer School of Business, but I was told yesterday that I was not accepted and would have to wait until after my freshman year in order to get in as long as I took certain classes and had at least 3.3 GPA. This puzzled me because I am in the 50th percentile for ACT and GPA for the directly admitted students from the class of 2017 and I have worked for a startup web-app development company for the last two years. Between my academic profile, some leadership positions in my extracurriculars, and having a real job in which I am held accountable for what I am able to create I thought I would surely be in. I also didn't screw up my application, had good recommendations, and wrote a decent essay leaving me even more confused. Has FSB suddenly gotten way more competitive in the last 12 months, or am I just thinking too highly of myself?

I suggest you call the admissions office and ask them if they can tell you where your application was weak. My son, who graduated from HS in 12, was not admitted to a special program that I thought he was a shoe-in for. Turns out the school made a mistake. If I hadn’t called, and asked politely what the problem was, we would have never known. Good luck.

how were you told?

I should clarify. This did not happen at Miami. I was told on the phone that he should recheck his portal the next day. The guy basically admitted it was a mistake.
