Fashion Mistakes That Make You Look Older

surfcity - I’ve seen the woman from goodbyecroptop on my Insta feed a few times - I like her jeans outfits.

Veryhappy - I found extrapetitite a number of years ago when I went back to work and was looking for professional outfit guidence. I’m not as tiny as her, but I was having trouble finding my size in regular mall stores at the time. Agree - her style is elegant.
Edit to add: I jumped on the extrapetite site this am (first time in a few years) - and I really love the classic looks she has!! Particularly now that with WFH I’m in the office less, her casual, elegant outfit suggestions are great!

CountingDown - I daily use an eyebrow brush (like mascara for eyebrows). I’m too nervous to get a professional tint near my eyes. I’ve found Benefit (at Ulta) to be the best… Site Search | Ulta Beauty

anomander - thanks for those tips for guys. Aguadecoco - my hub is similar - he is willing to spend much, much more than me on clothes. Likes Tommy Bahama, etc. I’ll buy a nice pair of pants at Express, but love my consignment store finds. He would never!

For those who didn’t see any video of the Depp/Heard trial and want a giggle related to eyeglasses and fashion, google “Dr Curry’s glasses”. She’s an expert witness, probably mid-40’s, who had the internet swooning every time she put on her reading glasses.

I wear glasses to drive, without them I will be 10 years younger, 26 at most, but then I have matching jewelries, so add back 10 years. It’s a wash, lol.

I actually think that my glasses make me look younger, they cover up the dark circles under my eyes (which I have always had even when I was young)

Her glasses look an awful lot like my distance glasses from Warby Parker. I need glasses to drive and when I watch movies and then I need readers for reading. I have many pairs of cute prescription sunglasses for driving and I finally ordered a pair of prescription readers this week to replace the ones I normally buy in packs of 3.

This is giving me very “Green Eggs and Ham” vibes

I’m sure I break so many of these rules. I wear leggings all the time on the weekends. I am older than 45, slim and have always had a great figure, by luck. I also wear shorts, bikinis, and have been known to shop fast fashion (H&M) from time to time. I have a slight obsession with trendy footwear. Where I live, I am not an outlier on this. Many women here are fit and fashionable, so there doesn’t seem to be an age limit to wearing certain things.

As for hair, I agree that keeping it colored too dark looks terrible (IMO). I actually think going gray naturally looks better than most color treated hair (on someone who is obviously covering gray). I also think hairstyle is one of those things that can make you look older - either wearing it too long (especially if it is thinning and/or gray) or too short (granny helmet).

Edited to add: I love, love, love funky glasses. They (and my mechanical watch) are my favorite accessories!

I have shorter hair and always have. I think it puts me at a certain age but I truly look horrible in longer hair. I’ve tried to grow it out and give up. Because it’s so not flattering. I have very thick wavy hair that grows reasonably fast. With a small face.

Glasses look great when you don’t have thick lenses. It’s a fact of life but not that cute

And I don’t think that leggings are that aging. They are a classic and a staple. So what if some people don’t like them, there are plenty that do.

I personally think leggings should be thick enough to not show cellulite  but that’s about all

Never saw her before. She’s gorgeous, glasses off or on.

She definitely looks much better with glasses, I didn’t watch this trial, but googling says she has a practice in Orange County.

I’ve never been all that interested in trendy styles or high end accessories. Just like getting clothes/shoes I like (with a high priority on comfort) that look good on me. But I will have to say it’s been fun to take a look at the various blogs mentioned here.

I especially liked extrapetite, even though I am almost twice her age and not nearly as slim hipped. Was surprised that the cute recommended short are only $45 at Nordstrom (honestly didn’t know anything was that affordable there).

I’ll be keeping an eye out for a MaturePearPetite fashion blog

If you hit the right sale… there is usually a lot of good stuff at decent prices/quality. Their own branded clothes are good quality, too.

Agreed. And that stands true at many department stores these days. That actually brought me back to shopping the “big stores” more often. I still like to shop small and support local when I can, but I also like a good sale!

The Nordstrom $45 shorts mentioned on extrapetite blog were not even on sale.

I bought something on the half yearly sale recently, I had a do to go.

The extrapetite.com lady also seems like a really nice person.

@Jolynne_Smyth - does the Gimme Brow also help with brows that need “taming”?

@FallGirl I use a brow product daily. I’ve tried different brands and types. This is one I find is good to tame https://www.sephora.com/product/dipbrow-pomade-P384060?skuId=1578699&icid2=products%20grid:p384060:product
Definitely buy the brush product that has a wand at one end and a application brush on the other.
I also really like the brow kit from Boy Brow + Brow Flick Duo
I don’t really wear makeup but the color on the brows is essential as I’ve gotten older. I also like a tinted moisturizer to give me some color. I like Jane Iredale from both her regular line and her Glo line.

Thanks @mom60. I think that’s what I need.
