Fashion Program

Can anyone give me some inside info re: the fashion program @ FSU. My Daughter is going to be a HS Junior , and we are starting to investigate College fashion programs. She's not really looking for design. More interested in merchandising, stlying, and possibly fashion Photography. Would FSU be a good option for her? Thanks for any info.

The fashion program is undergoing cuts because of the budget constraints, but merchandising will still be an option. I will find the exact extent of the cuts in this department and post the info later.

Here is the summary: Will look for more details:

Human Sciences
Suspend Apparel Design major
Suspend Textiles major
Restructure and rename Merchandising major

It appears this may leave the Human Science Dept and be a more business oriented program with the loss of the design and textiles major.

Since she is a rising junior, you can reassess in a year when she is ready to start applying.

I can tell you that for the future, fashion related majors will not be a priority at FSU.

Kind of off-topic, but Sunny, is Studio Art staying?

Visual Arts, Theatre & Dance:

Theatre MFA Acting - ASOLO program to become self supporting in 3 years
Suspend Theatre MFA Lighting Program
Suspend Theatre MFA Scenic Design Program
Suspend Art Education BS Program
Restructure College into 3 Schools - School of Theatre; School of Dance; and School of Art Design

This is the only reference to art in the cuts. It appears only the Art Ed program is eliminated. They are using the word “suspend” in hopes the ecomomy and funding will change. But suspend appears to be “suspend with the idea it will be cut’”

Are there future cuts scheduled to be decided? Or was this a one-time settlement?

I’m going to double major with Studio Art and it seems as though the arts are the popular programs to cut…
