It’s been over 10 years since I last went to college at FAU and I’m looking to go back and finish my degree. I have my AA and am looking into online programs. I’ve narrowed it down to FAU (because I have some upper level credits that I’m hoping will still apply toward my degree) and UF. I’ve applied to both and now just waiting.
Checking out FAU online tonight and noticed that they have a $60 per credit hour surcharge for online students in addition to regular tuition courses… so it would be $261.29 per credit hour. While UF, a traditionally more well respected school, actually gives a discount for online students bringing their cost to $129.18 per credit hour. Am I reading this all right?? Or am I missing some fine print somewhere?
Here’s the link to the UF page:

And here’s the link to where I saw the surcharge from FAU:

The State of Florida legislature has started an initiative to launch a competitive on-line program. It selected UF to run it. The legislature is funding UF’s effort to build up the program. One of the requirements, listed by the legislature, is that UF has to give in-state students a discount on tuition. For that reason, UF can only charge 75% of it’s normal rate for tuition (and UF tuition rate is the same as FAU, plus or minus the fees). UF also not charge many of the fee’s it would normally charge to in-state students.
If you’re looking for an on-line degree, as an in-state student, it’s hard to beat UF’s deal (as funded by the state). Your degree will also be exactly like a normal degree, nothing on the diploma is different. All you need to do is make sure the major you’re interested in is offered by UF.
Good Luck!!
I’d go with UF, I’m a FAU BBA grad and we have a lot of fees, the $60 online fee, 78.50 parking etc. UF didn’t have these online options when I completed my BBA Accounting, mostly live, but the distance class $180 distance learning fee hurt. FAU also has a tuition differential fee etc. Best of luck!
