FAU Out of State

Hello, I am from Saint Louis Missouri, I am therefore out of state. Do out of State students like FAU or do they wish they never gone there in the first place, I am also into Criminal Justice, what is the credibility of FAU's criminal justice program?

Thanks!

I know this is going to come off like a non-answer but that’s a tough question because you can’t really paint everybody with the same brush. Everyone’s experience is different. It really depends on your expectations, your flexibility and your willingness to get involved.

For some people, FAU’s exactly what they expected or better. Many come for the weather, the beach and the girls. A lot of these people didn’t really care what the college was like, just that they were in college, and they’d make the best of it.

Other people, expecting it to be like the experience at a 100 year old institution like UF, UMichigan or Ohio State, may be disappointed. FAU just celebrated its 50th birthday and while it has made tremendous strides - football stadium, thousands of students on campus, the Boca Raton mayor saying the city is becoming a college town - there are still things we need to accomplish: Greek housing, a huge Student Union and more FAU-centric bars/restaurants near campus would probably be the top three on the wishlist.

These things take time (and lots of money) to develop. Older schools had the luxury of time and can offer those things. FAU is still working on it.

You can (and should) have an awesome time here. I did. I know a lot of other people who are loving it right now. But like I said, it depends on your expectations of your FAU experience.

Same thing with criminal justice. FAU’s not “known” for criminal justice the way they’re known for ocean engineering, for instance. If you want to be a police officer, absolutely. If you’re hoping to use it to get into a law school, yes, if you work hard you can do that, plus there’s a Pre-law club here (and faculty, obviously) to support that dream.

However, if you want to go from FAU to Yale Law… I wouldn’t get your hopes up.

Then again, that would be a longshot from any school.

I went to FAU as an out of state student and loved it!!! W00t!!! or should i say H00T!!! go FAU!!! I am so glad I chose to move from Philadelphia, PA to attend FAU. I truly loved it. I lived on campus for 2 years (Indian River Towers) and had soooo much fun. Met so many great people and loved my classes.

However the school is big. Something like 28K, so stuff isn’t going to be handed to you. You must get involved and seek things out like extra help with classes, etc.

The dining is there- tons of options. The res halls are all pretty much new and super nice. You’re literally 5 mins from the beach!! I mean seriously I remember being on the beach right before leaving for Xmas break (in December!!) It’s a clean and modern campus. The breezeway has a cool vibe, always stuff going on, tables set up, etc. Great place to people watch. Tons of diversity at FAU as well. You’ll meet people from not only all over the country, but also all over the world.

Best way to get around is long-board, or bike. Or just walk. It stays pretty hot til about november and then start to cool down a bit. It starts getting hot again in Feb… so Nov, dec, and Jan and your comfortable months, meaning walk to class without sweating! :)

but so what if its hot. You’re 3.5 miles from the beach and theres are pools to lay out by. Anyway, I cannot say enough good things about FAU. You should go, give it ur best shot and enjoy your new surroundings.
