Favorite 5 Foreign Albums

There have been plenty of threads like this one on CC but most of the favorite songs and favorite albums have been by Americans, Canucks, or Brits. So let's open it up a bit. What are your 5 favorite discs from outside the US, Canada, and Great Britain? I'm going to keep my list contemporary with only albums released in the last 15 years.

A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular by Hooverphonic (Belgian)
The Magnificent Tree by Hooverphonic (still Belgian)
Permutation by Amon Tobin (Brazilian)
Melody AM/The Understanding by Royksopp (Norwegian)
Luxury by Fantastic Plastic Machine (Japanese)

Are you talking about in languages other than English? Because if not, out of the 50 or so albums I own, only 2 are from an American born band (two albums from Kamelot).

As far as "foreign" albums go, my list looks something like:

Sonata Arctica - 'Unia' (Finland)

Dragonland - 'Starfall' (Sweden)

Sonata Arctica - 'Winterheart's Guild' (Finland)

Elvenking - 'The Winter Wake' (Italy)

Ensiferum - 'Ensiferum' (Finland)

If you're talking five favorite foreign-language albums, my list looks something like:

Kotiteollisuus - 'Helvetist

Hey I'm a huge Sonata Arctica fan! and of those on your list, I am familiar with Moonsorrow & Finntroll...can you tell me what these other bands are like? and who else would you recommend to a SA fan? thanks

Ninja, I love your taste. Hooverphonic and Royksopp are really hot. I don't know if you would like him, but I like Akufen from Montreal. He takes random sounds like cars honking, radio static, etc. and makes techno/house music out of it. I also like Teitur from the Faeroe Islands (Denmark). He's more folk, but he writes great music.

"Histoire de Melody Nelson" Serge Gainsbourg
"Ne me quitte pas" Jacques Brel
"Illusions" Ute Lemper
"Die Grossen Erfolge" Marlene Dietrich (a compilation)
"Anamorphosee" Mylene Farmer

not very interesting. i'm kinda an old woman.

!! I just went to see Sonata Arctica and Kamelot in the past month. I love, love, love, love, love Kamelot. I heart European metal.

Anyway, for me:

Oceanborn by Nightwish (Finland)
Unia by Sonata Arctica (Finland)
Once by Nightwish (Finland)
Donde estan los ladrones? by Shakira (before she became blonde and mainstream) (Columbia)
Consign to Oblivion by Epica (The Netherlands)

The Sonata Arctica show I saw last month was hands-down the best concert I've ever been to. As they're getting older, Tony's voice is getting even better and - even though I've been listening to them for six years - I have to say that I really like the new guitarist, Elias, better than Jani.
Talked to him for a while after the show, too; really, really cool guy.

I suppose my favorite "foreign" bands are:

AC/DC
Nightwish
Seether

my five favorite albums are foreign. in fact, most of the music I like is from Europe.

Wintersun - Wintersun

Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane

Scar Symmetry - Pitch Black Progress

Sacramentum - Far Away From the Sun

Moonsorrow - Verisakeet

Sigur R

Canada -
"Set Yourself on Fire" - Stars
"Grow Up and Blow Away" - Metric
"Knives Don't Have Your Back" - Emily Haines
"Feel Good Lost" - Broken Social Scene
"Let it Die" - FEIST

Norway -
"Riot on an Empty Street" - Kings of Convenience

Great Britain -
"London Calling" - the Clash
"Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me" - The Cure
"Hell's Ditch" - the Pogues

Golddust Woman, I love how all of your favorite albums from Canada have roots to BSS. Arts & Crafts would dominate my favorite albums list as well.

Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros - Iceland

You like the new guitarist better? A lot of ppl were really upset about jani leaving. I thought he was very good. I'm not sure about better, but I don't think everyone needs to be so upset.
