Favorite Hip Hop artists? (Old and New)

I saw Nas live for the first time at Lolla last summer. Needless to say, he gained my respect.

childish gambino is pretty talented

Old: Tribe Called Quest

New: Honestly, Kanye. Though I have enormous respect for the roots.

And ughhhh not Mac Miller.

nave no problem man! those are some awesome choices…feel free to keep discussing, i love this sh**!

boomstick I feel ya…but they still bring it…even if it isn’t in the big lights like Jay-Z etc…I’ll check out Sha Stimuli when I get a chance for sure.

Anaychi…I disagree with that…I don’t think that there will be a new wave like that for a few reasons. Real hip hop heads tend to hate gimmicky stuff and I can’t see them accepting Das Racist and their types…and I dunno that they could get mainstream appeal either. I do like some of their stuff though…but have to be in the right mood. They are talented as hell regardless!

yeah Childish Gambino is talented but I listened to a lot of his tracks the other day and really wasn’t feeling it too much.

I agree with the “hip hop heads” not accepting what’s new on the scene, but those who don’t accept change stay in the past forevermore. It’s happened in every genre: while the purists may not accept, the progression stays on course. The fact that they’re going against the tide of modern hip-hop in itself could be shaping their future success. But, obviously time will tell.

then it won’t be hip hop…is what i’m saying.

Old: Biggie, Nas. I’ve never liked Tupac even though I’m from the west.
New: Domo Genesis. He has a great voice and flow. Love the beats he picks to rap on too. Check out his songs Stray Bullets, Benediction, Mission Statement, and Boss Life.

That’s a pretty close-minded way of putting it, don’t you think?

“I’ll check that site out for sure…Chiddy Bang was awesome when he came and did a concert at my uni…but he isn’t doing much these days lol.”

new album breakfast drops feb 28th in the US dumb@$$

Just listened to Das Racist for the first time, didn’t really like him. In my opinion, he fits the stereotypical rapper nowadays who just relys on a beat to cover up poor lyrics. Real hip hop doesn’t need autotuned beats, it just needs lyricism.

Ok, hi? Are you serious?

First of all, Das Racist is a GROUP, not a “guy.” Secondly, “real” hip-hop means nothing–it’s an evolutionary genre, just like rock, or jazz, or pop. Do you hear people criticizing the Black Keys for not prog-rocking like Pink Floyd? No, because music EVOLVES. You’re epitomizing the white-as-hell, “real hip-hop”-loving snobby bums that make me so dislike Brother Ali, Jay Elec, and all of the otherwise very talented underground guys.

I agree that hip hop is evolving. My point is that it the vast majority of today’s hip hop is garbage. You can’t possibly compare your boy Wiz Khalifa to the likes of Q-Tip and L, can you?

Why don’t you just chill and let me voice my opinion

I find it a tad bit funny that you think Das Racist’s lyrics are poor. Too advanced for you, I’d suspect. I’d recommend that you read up on a few of their songs on RapGenius: [Das Racist Lyrics | Rap Genius](Das Racist Lyrics, Songs, and Albums | Genius)

I don’t know much about hip hop, but help me try and find some other artists similar to the ones i listen to?

I like Rascalz - soul obligation and A tribe called quest - check the rhime. Stuff like that lol.

anaychi, using my site! Thanks, sir. (:

As for the other bumhole, I’d never compare Wiz to Tip, who’s one of my favorite rappers, period, and easily in the top ten of all time. But please, please don’t jump to the juvenile conclusion that Tribe/the like don’t record anymore or underground guys don’t get enough press/record sales, so today’s hip-hop is garbage. That’s just such an immature fallacy, I can’t even begin to explain it.

You can feel free to voice your opinion. It’s my job to be better-informed than you, so I relish the opportunity to have a respectful discussion with you and then pick your argument apart.

How could I forget Das Racist and Brother Ali?! They’re really good.

Big L is good, as well; so are Cannibal Ox and OFWGKTA. This may be a bit obscure, but I like Eins Zwo, too:

<a href=“Eins Zwo - Danke, gut - YouTube”>Eins Zwo - Danke, gut - YouTube;

Old: Andre Nocotina, ATCQ
Some of my newer favorite ones are Living Legends, MF Doom, The Grouch, Cyne.
De la Soul is dope too :)

IMO MF Doom( or Danger Doom, Madvillain, or just Doom) is one of the most unique and freshest rappers out there. You should check him out.
Look up Madvillain- All Caps. This will show you what he’s all about. The video is dope as well.
Another song that’s dope with him is called Rock Co Kane Flow, which is De La Soul and Doom, sick beats.

Right now my favorite is Hopsin

Immortal Technique, MF Doom, Lupe, Trae, Andre/OutKast, Tip, Pharcyde, Yeezy, DMX…the list is pretty incongruent.

Also like Korean rappers, so Tiger JK/Drunken Tiger…maybe Tablo.

Not down with Hov. Also I don’t like Mac Miller, but that may be because of his fan base at my school.
