Are their any wrist watches that are particular favorites of USAFA cadets and/or Air Force pilots?

Thanks.

A lot of guys here have Ironman watches: they are relatively cheap and fairly durable. I have a nike sports watch that I wear on a day-to-day basis. It has a chronograph, and I dont really have to worry about scratching it up. If your looking for something more 'dressy,' pretty much anything goes. Im not 100% sure about the regs, but I believe the band can be black, silver, or brown (leather).

Just a side-note about Ironman watches...they make women's watches too. My daughter loves her Iron"man". :)

I have had an Iron man since I got here. Love them. Most of my friends also have them.

Bullet has only had Ironmans for at least the past 15 yrs. I can't think of 1 guy in the AF Strike Eagle community that wears something else for work.

Wild, I checked the regs...

Pretty vague, so knock yourself out I guess.

I wear a Timex Expedition. They are relatively cheap, have a lot of functions, and last quite a while...same goes for the Ironman watches (I used to wear those.)

Not that I like to correct Pima (which is a key to a happy marriage), but most of the fighter guys I know usually follow four rules when it comes to watches:

1) The bigger the better. If I could somehow strap on a grandfather clock around my wrist, I'd try. Seriously, we like 'em with HUGE faces (easier to see the numbers when you look down at your wrist, which is usually holding the throttles).

2) Big Digital watches, big faces, lots of gadgets. I wore a Casio G-Shock, some guys wore Iron-men, some guys wore other brands. We would sit around before the brief (when the mission lead would call the Navy's Universal Master Clock for a time hack) and brag about what our watches could do ("Mine uses a built in automatic time hack sent via signal from NASA", "Mine has a built in emergency transmitter on the Guard freq", "Mine has four-time zones", "Mine plays soothing water sounds or the sounds of the Ocean at bed-time", "Mine makes cappucino, then does my kid's homework", you know the usual stuff...).

3) Digital watches - black. Expensive watches - silver. Either kind - needs to keep an accurate hack (doesn't drift off a few seconds each day). Worn on your left wrist (don'twant to have the watch get in the way on your right wrist, which is holding the stick), facing outwards.

4) It became a status symbol amongst the guys to get a Breitling at some time during their career, usually with the silhoutte of the jet they flew on the second hand, and their wings on the face. Brietling sometimes made deals with our Snackos to make a special "squadron" watch (had the sqaudron patch or symbol on it) if they could get enough guys to buy one. EXPENSIVE gift to yourself (Usually $1500).

My suggestion to you: buy a sports watch you like, black. Make sure you can keep splits on it, and use it while you KEEP RUNNING to get ready for the CFA.

HAHA, wow... Never a dull moment on these forums. Even when talking about watches!

Haha, off topic, but I thought I'd slip it in here. I realize I'll lose it for basic, but the first thing I'll do once I get out of basic is put my watch back on. I've had it for six years and I almost never take it off. People always say its weird to sleep with my watch on, but its just become normal. It feels really weird when its off.

Other than basic, will I have to lose my watch for anything else?

Recognition in March for 3 days.

Haha, well, I'm pretty sure being without my watch for three days won't kill me......I make no promises about what else could. :)

:) no fear my friend, no fear. ;)

Yeah, I wear mine almost all the time. The only times I don't wear it are when I am swimming or in the shower...and BCT, Recognition, obstacle courses, and tool shops (where prohibited).

I've been looking at getting a watch for a while now.
Is it ok if it has blue in it like this:

honestly, i've never seen/heard of an upperclassmen telling you you cant wear your watch because it's not in regs. but, i'm definitely sure there are some folks out there who would... bottom line: if you like the watch, get it..

I know they are hard to find but I bought Buckaroo an Air Force issued navigator watch from around 1958. I purchased it at an antique militaria(sp?) show is Baltimore. It has a nice large face, the primary drawback of course is that it is a watch without a battery. I had to show her how to wind it up!

Do the Ironman watches have show altitude? Our son wants one that displays the altitude.
