Anyone in Fencing club? Wanna share experience?

I went to a couple of practices early in the fall. The club seems to have about 10-15 active members. Most are novices, but some have a lot of previous experience. The leaders participate in come off-campus tournaments and stress that the club can accomodate people of all skill levels.

I don't go to Emory, but my old coach does the fencing club there. He's pretty good, not the quickest guy in the world, but hey, he's produced champions.

well I'm not planning on doing competitive fencing. Just fencing club. So i guess your coach won't be teaching me?

Hmm, if I get in I'll definitely have to check that out. Is the club biased any which way towards a certain weapon? I find that there are more and more saber fencers, which means fewer and fewer people to face me with my weapon of choice (Epee).

arbiter, how long did it take to get to your current fencing level?

Well, I've been fencing for 8 years or so, and my coaches were a Ukrainian gold medalist and his father (who was his coach and the West Point coach). But I've had almost no exercise for like a year, so I'm in TERRIBLE shape. I'm hoping to work my way back up over my freshman year at college and try and make a team.
