thanks for being straightfoward jcarroll. i’d rather have someone tell me straight up than give me hope and later only find out it was a rejection anyway. im a transfer student and applied a month ago, still haven’t received my web advisor log-in details…hmmm. But now im extra nervous since decision complete really means rejected haha. so how do they let you have your second choice major? Do they ask everyone who got rejected if they want their second? Or only select people? and how? Through email? Through the rejection letter?

I had a decision complete, I got rejected.

decision complete

great.

my gf got decision complete and she got in with a 25k scholarship

I doubt it pipesnake, I highly doubt it. I’m talking specifically about the film production students here, so maybe she applied to a different major, or got into her second choice major. Don’t listen to the dodge website which contradicts me, it’s false, I promise you. If you don’t believe me, research older threads, there isn’t one case (pipesnake’s girlfriend excluded) where somebody had “decision complete” and then got in. And I’m talking about reading every single film production thread for the past three years…If you get in, it says “admission approved”, period. I know it might be hard to hear, but take it from someone who was filled with a false sense of hope for too long (luckily I finally got into Northridge.)

I was however accepted to the producing program at Chapman, but that was after being rejected from film pro, and recieving a notice in the mail. I called the admissions people, jumped through hoops, basically begged my way in, and then eventually decided I’d rather go to Northridge.

Just my two cents, take it or leave it.

jcarroll,

Not to hi-jack the thread, but how are you finding CSUN for film production vs what you perceived you would have experienced at Chapman? I’m trying to point my son toward CSUN if he doesn’t get into Chapman as a transfer next year.

One other thing, getting rejected from Chapman can seem pretty devastating, but it’s not the end of the world, especially if you truly have the drive and determination to be a filmmaker. I suggest exploring other schools, because there is plenty of options out there, and you might find that Chapman wouldn’t have been a good fit for you at all. Remember, just because you keep reading that USC, UCLA, NYU, Chapman, and LMU are the premiere destinations for film production majors, and that you have to get accepted to one of those schools to get a job in the industry and make connections, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily true. To many talented film makers I know (myself included) have gotten hooked on these schools, and spend a eternity trying fruitlessly to get admitted. When these individuals are not admitted, they lose self confidence, and some even give up. In my opinion, it’s really fabricated ********, put out by schools with huge advertising budgets, and even huger tuition prices.

For instance, CSULB, SDSU, UCSC, and CSUN actually have superb film programs, for a fraction of the cost of Chapman. This is good because you can take the outrageously high tuition prices that you would have been paying at Chapman, and pour them into your student films. You might have to wait a while (considering applications are closed until next year for those state schools), but that just gives you more time to make films, practice your craft, and find out what really suits you.

sorry, i asked her again today and she said it did say, admission approved. thought she said it was decision complete. should listen more closely. she applied to screenwriting, too, not film production. my status still says decision pending as of 01/07/2010

I checked my webadvisor today, says decision complete… If I didn’t get into Chapman I very much doubt I"ll get into USC or UCSC or Occidental either. :(

I was wait listed

andrewgc,
"wait list"better than a no! So it’s over yet! How did you hear you were waitlisted? On webadvisor or in a letter? My D webadvisor still says “decision pending.” She is climbing the walls!
I hope your waitlist turns into accepted!

Just because you get rejected from Chapman doesn’t mean you will from UCSC especially.
Film Production at Chapman is SO competitive to get into…you could have the stats, the talent, and the EC’s…and still not get in.
I want to take this moment to vouch for UCSC…I have a buddy going there for Digital Media/Film and LOVES it. If you haven’t visited the campus, you MUST…you will fall in love.

By the way…had a friend two years ago…rejected at Chapman, in at UCLA. Attending now and loves it.
Who would thunk?

help!! Does anyone still have “admission pending” My D is decision pending since November!
Anyone in the same boat?

Yes, my S. He has had decision pending since the beg. of Dec.

I have to agree with pveticket, I’ve heard a lot of good things about UCSC, and they seem to have a pretty solid film program…

THANK YOU! my D is going crazy checking her web status…decision pending!
very nerve-wracking!
thanks for letting me know. Good luck with your S. Will you post when you hear something? anything?
thanks!

daduni
Your welcome. I’ll post as soon as he hears something. It is really nerve-wracking for him, too.

daduni
My S’s webadvisor changed today to decision complete. Oh well. Hope your D has better luck.

klmomm
So sorry to hear that. Although I did hear that some kids that had decision complete are wait-listed, so maybe there is still hope. My daughter is still “decision pending.” I’ll hope that decision complete means a wait-listed for your son!
