Six days ago, Barnard’s Financial Aid Office called to let me know that they were missing a few of my forms.

Do you think there’s any significance in them calling so late? I figured that they couldn’t possibly go and call each and every girl about her forms…or maybe I’m the only girl (or one of a handful) that forgot to send something in. Is this a good sign or should I take it with a grain of salt? Are there any Barnard girls/moms/prospectives that were/are in the same situation?

Sorry if this is silly! My curiosity/optimism/beginning to fret about decisions and whatnot is getting to me.

Well, pink7, my d and I were in your exact position, oh, three years ago. I was absolutely convinced that, even though the financial aid stuff is separate from admissions, there was no way they could possibly make calls like that to EVERYONE who applies, no matter their acceptance. They vehemently deny this, but that is what we clung to at the time (me more than my d...I seem to remember her as being much more calm about this than I was).

Long story short, she was accepted. So there is one example of what you hope is true. Not a proof, certainly, but I wish you the best!!

If you REALLY want "evidence" about the possible significance of this, you should post on the parent's forum and ask if anyone has had this kind of contact just a week or two before decisions are due at a school like Barnard which is "need blind" (admissions not tied into ability to pay), and who was then NOT admitted....

Okay, I looked at the Financial Aid boards here and a similar question to yours was actually asked. A long-time CC-er (who actually talked and supported me through my "wait period" when my own daughter applied) posted the following info:

Any school that receives federal funds are required to verify a a random percentage (I beleive it is 30%) of their financial aid applications.

I still think it looks good for you....best to you!! Let us know how it turns out!

D was accepted at Barnard and attends, loves it! First choice! But she was contacted by two other schools directly by phone about FA forms and then rejected at one and waitlisted at the other, so I wouldn't count on it.

Be cautiously optimist. always a good spot.
