I don't think you can really get a single room at NYU in ANY dorm. They're squeezed enough for space already (ex: some freshmen were forced to live in upperclassmen housing), and unless you have a serious medical condition or something, I doubt they would let you do that. Your best option would be to find a nearby studio apartment, which would probably be cheaper than paying for a single anyway.

Having your own spacious studio loft apartment free of rent on Mercer St is like a dream come true and is AMAZING. You won't be short of socialising because your friends will want to come over and party all the time. Depending what your major is and if you join clubs and stuff you may have easy opportunities to make friends anyway. The freshman dorm experience is nice but not indispensible, and after freshman year a lot of people start looking to move into apartments anyway, particularly if they know they want to end up living in the city. Definitely stay there. It's right by the NYU dorms anyway, it'll just be like having your own room.

Talking of which, it's impossible to have your own room unless by chance you get assigned a small single sharing a bathroom with a double. But it's nothing you can request. Upperclassmen can request Alumni Hall which is all singles but for Freshmen you have no choice. It's not as bad as you think - I am quite picky and was DREADING it and it ended up being fine and even very nice and a lot of fun sometimes.

Thank you guys so much for answering my questions on Goddard! I wanted to say thank you earlier (like 2 weeks earlier since I get weekly email updates) but both times I couldn't log in! It redirected me to a page where I was logged out. Finally it works! =D So thank you!

Momof3stars: Coffeemakers are officially not allowed by university policy here in Hayden, but I know of like, 3 people on my floor who don't own one. Our RA simply doesn't care. I can't really speak for the other dorms.

Bottom line: move in, and have your daughter just buy one sometime after welcome week.

If anyone has questions about Rubin, just ask.

is not having AC in rubin that bad? What are the pros/cons for Rubin?

Can anybody give some opinions about Weinstein or Brittany?

I got in ED and I really want to go to Goddard. Is it a guarantee that I will get placed in Goddard (even though the housing applications don't include it)?

also, for other ED students out there, have there been any invites sent to you to visit NYU from when we got accepted to now? (I think it's a tad bit odd that NYU is inviting regular decision admits to events and not us)

No, I haven't gotten any invites. They're sending invites for RD students because NYU is trying to convince them to enroll. Us ED kids are already "locked in" so they don't have to try to convince us any more.

The reason I asked about the invites is because I haven't officially visited NYU yet and I thought that they would send an invite to an event after we got accepted but they haven't. My schedule is pretty tight right now but do you think it would be beneficial if I went to visit NYU officially or should I just wait until the orientation dates in the summer?

What do you mean by "officially" visiting? I would definitely at least tour the campus before enrolling, since the campus is so different from more traditional campuses.

Cycospaz2, do you know how the low cost triple rooms are in Rubin?

Hey Simply, I want to go to Goddard too! But the only "floor" I'm interested in is Visionaries and the cost of the low-cost-triples at Rubins is appealing to me.

scorp_ion - I meant that I never actually went to a formal tour of NYU.
I basically wandered around the campus(es) by myself and fell in love with it.

rainb0wteardr0px- yay! I'm really interested in Global NY. I heard Visionaries was really bad last year, but I'm sure it was because of the teacher affiliated with that stream. Hopefully, they'll get someone new this year.

Does not having a dining hall in Brittany really suck or is it pretty much fine?

Can anyone list the pros n cons of each dorm? Like not having AC in Rubin, etc? That would be helpful...!

I'm sure it's been done many times.

Just search this board.

all of the dorms are amazing, but i'm thinking goddard simply because of its location right next to the library.

how can you choose goddard? it is not in the options.

I don't think the forms for Goddard are out yet...
