Financial aid appeal

Has anyone appealed their financial aid? If so, I am wondering how it worked out for you. I tried and my appeal was denied without any reason or explanation mind you and I am heartbroken because now, even with the aid I did receive,attending Stevens is still a financial burden. I want this school more than any of the other ones I applied to and I am thrilled to have been accepted but I am so torn. Do I really want to have to take out 45,000 for the next 4 years and be 100,000 in debt after I graduate? And since I plan on doing the co-op program it could possibly be more! Is it worth it? Will it pay off? I honestly don’t know what to do…anyone???

What are you planning to major in? In some areas of engineering this summer students are making about $1500/week during 10 week summer internships and that is without any over time. I don’t know how the internships work at Stevens but given those rates, I’d expect that the $45k/y could be reduced to very little.

I can’t speak to the appealing financial aid aspect of your post, but I do know during coops you will be taking few, if any classes and will be earning a salary, so you won’t have tuition concerns during coops, just living expenses (rent/food/transportation)

I haven’t heard of anyone who made $1500 per week. I think that $20 per hour for a 40 hour week ($800 per week) is considered very good by most students. My son is currently making around $12 per hour @ coop.

Thanks…I am planning to major in Computer Science

@rualum …what is his major?

Have you been accepted anywhere that is more reasonable, price-wise? Honestly, I think a CS degree from anywhere will get you a decent job nowadays.
