I transferred from one college to another in Sep. 08. The new college tuition is more than what my financial aid covers. I don't qualify for supplemental loans. I want to transfer to another college again where my tuition is covered by my financial aid. Am I allowed to transfer a second time within one award year? Are there specific guidelines that I need to follow to make this second transfer possible and successful? The other option is for me to find a private lender that will understand my one credit issue. Anyone have thoughts or suggestions about my situation?

You certainly can transfer twice within an award year. You would need to update your FAFSA online to send it to the school you are considering. Once they get your info, you would want to talk to the financial aid office to see what you might be able to receive in the way of aid. Please realize that the annual loan limits for your year in school apply - so if you received half your limit at the current school, you would only be eligible for the other half at the new school - and if you have already received your annual limit at the current school (and are planning to transfer for spring/summer) - you would not have any eligibility until the new award year starts.

In addition, if you are transferring midyear, many schools do not have work study or grants to award, even if you would qualify under normal circumstances. The limited funds are usually given out to those who apply by the financial aid priority date (late winter/early spring preceding the new award year).

If financial aid is a consideration for your transfer, please make sure you speak with the new school so you know for a fact what you will be receiving should you transfer.
