so how does financial aid work out for students who cannot register until fall orientation? at my community college now, if you have not registered way ahead of the disbursement time, they do not give you financial aid until they have proof you're registered for classes, and then they send you the rest of the money (minus tuition) like two weeks later. am i totally ****ed? i've been planning on moving down there around the 18th and getting an apartment. this is my first apartment on my own, so i need to buy EVERYTHING.

i emailed my adviser and she said that they cannot remove your registration bar until you attend summer or fall orientation. she said if i cannot attend orientation, then you can email them AFTER and they can remove the bar. this is totally ****ed. guess that's what i get for trying to better myself by going to summer school.

Ya, I just found out today after emailing an advisor that they cannot just remove the bar on your account. They told me that I needed to be assigned a registration time, which I assume was going to happen at orientation before it can be removed. They also said contact admissions and ask them. I am going to call admissions tomorrow to see.

Also what do you mean when you said “email them After”, email them after orientation? or after you move in?

email them after orientation if you cannot attend any of the orientations. they’ll remove it if there aren’t anymore orientations to possibly attend.

I am not sure as to how fast your financial aid information will be processed nor am I sure what types of financial aid you are applying for.

I applied for FAFSA and got the PELL Grant. UT will reimburse me the difference after tuition has eaten its fill of the grant. I would assume this process to take at least until the end of each semester. It was explained to me while I was up at campus today that if you are awaiting financial aid but cannot pay tuition with it immediately, you would have to get a tuition loan through the university that will end up being paid by your financial aid…leaving you with the difference.

hope this helps?

things work a little differently for me since I am a veteran.

I personally discovered that it is almost impossible to reach OSFS by phone, they usually answer emails within 2 weeks, BUT they have a facebook page. And if you contact them on facebook the answer can arrive within an hour.

Just try to ask your question in less personal manner, like “by what date financial aid is received by students who attend fall orientation and register for classes later than 8/15?” Something like that. More chance they will answer this question quickly and even add it to their FAQ.
