Financial Aid for International Students

Hi everyone,

I got accepted into Mt Holyoke (Class 2015) with about 50% finaid. The thing is, my dad's job is based on contracts, of which the current one ends in September 2011.

Even with about 50% finaid, the family contribution comes up to about US$26000+ a year, and while this is bearable with a source of income, it'll be a nightmare if my dad were to lose his employment (contract ends and isn't renewed).

The admission for Moho is 'need-aware' or sth like that for intl students, but does anyone know the policy for reconsideration of aid (for intl students).

I know that they say they will take things like loss of employment into consideration, but I want to know if it applies to intl students too, and what are the chances that my request will be accepted (with like $0 income).

Thanks for reading this lengthy msg! :)

anyone please?

I’ll take a guess at this. I believe it is unlikely that Mt. Holyoke reconsider your aid package based on a job loss that hasn’t yet occurred. Simply put…your dad HAS a job now and there is no guarantee that he won’t have another one when the current one ends. Most schools have a “waiting period” when job losses occur. In other words, you can ask for reconsideration of your financial aid, but it typically doesn’t happen the day (or even the month) that the job loss occurs…because sometimes folks DO find other employment.

In addition, your financial aid for the 2011-2012 school year is predicated on your finances from 2010…and your dad WILL have a job for 3/4 of 2011.

You can ask them…but my guess is that IF they will reconsider your aid, it will only be AFTER a job loss actually occurs.
