Financial aid for International transfer students

I am applying as an International Transfer student from India to top US universities... After doing an extensive search, I came up with these seven universities which offer financial aid for international transfers. Please help me extend the list by listing other colleges falling into the category,
1. Harvard
2. Yale
3. Cornell
4. MIT
5. Columbia
6. Dartmouth
7. Stanford

The list that you have put up is great. But you need to know that acceptance percentage of Transfer students is VERY VERY VERY less. Like 2% OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. I won’t discourage you but to an extent it is very unrealistic to apply.

Which college are you attending in India? What’s your major?
Why don’t you consider Grad school at the schools in your list?

I am a sophomore at IIT Bombay. Major: Chemistry, Minor: Computer Science. The Institute did not allow me to change my major to Computer Science. I have an excellent academic and extra curricular record, few international publications in maths and computer science. SAT I -2320. SAT II - 2400(PCM). As far as grad school, I feel I am wasting my time doing chemistry and I fancy my chances, after all I was in top 1% of my country to enter my current institution. I wanted to know which other universities offer financial for international transfers.

^^ I know about IIT. I had got into the Agricultural and Food Engineering at IIT Kgp last year year. But decided against it. I was passionate about Electronics. AND I KNOW how much you have worked to get into IIT that too in IIT Bombay!

But really acceptance is VERY HARD that too as transfer students to those universities! But you can definitely try!

I think you have realistic chances for Cornell, but after admission sometimes cornell doesn’t offer financial aid.

cornell has the TATA scholarship for indian undergraduates

Check this out http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cornell-university/428403-does-cornell-offer-financial-aid-transfer-international-students.html

This may help you

I spoke to the financial aid section, they say that Indians have no problem thanks to the new TATA scholarship!

^^ Then its great. All the best to you. Do PM me when you get in!

No the thread was meant for knowing whether any other colleges/univ offer financial aid to international transfer that I am not aware of… Please help regarding this

I don’t think any school gives financial aid to international transfer student.

The OP needs to understand…many schools in the U.S. don’t give institutional need based aid to U.S. citizens that transfer. The list of schools giving substantial need based aid to international transfers if even shorter…and most competitive. To be honest, I think his list might just be all there is.

Cooper union gives full tuition fees… but is it worth it to transfer from IIT to Cooper just to get the comp sci major?

Also a lot of liberal arts and sciences college offer need based financial aid to international transfer students like grinell, colgate. But again is it worth it ?

^^ Yeah. Cooper Union has great reputation. It is worth transferring.

Is it worth it to even transfer to the best private liberal arts and sciences college with 3+2engineering program from an IIT?

Kazzar,

Can you please share your experience so far in seeking the financial aid for international transfers? Would really appreciate your sharing for me to plan and know which universities I should apply to. I am based in India and intent to apply for international transfers.

thanks,
Rohit

I wouldn’t transfer unless you get lucky and get into an ivy or Stanford. When you go back to India, having an IIT degree will be more helpful than one from most American colleges.

Why did you prepare for JEE in the very first place? Why did you work so hard when you could have gotten into almost any ivy leauge school by focussing on school? Transferring to ANY college from IITB would be ridiculous! Reasons?

1 HUGE credit loss, you will be in first semester again (well, technically!)

2 Will waste years while graduating.

3 Almost next to impossible financial aid. Cornell might be fine because of TATA Scholarship, but its not good for engineering. Not worth leaving IIT-B.

4 Added cost which you could have avoided. Be prepared to spend 15-30 lakhs, even after getting aid.

Benefits of being in IIT-B:

Straight Ticket to MIT/Caltech with assistanceship.

You can concentrate on computers while being in ChemE, my brother from IIT-D Textile, went to CalTech will FULL AID+Stipend for Phd in CS.

Now You Decide, after 4 years either have a BS in CompE with debt of atleast 20-30 lakhs, or MS in CompE with virtually no debt, IIT-B degree, its a win-win situation.

Take my word bro, don’t bother to apply! Will be wasting your time and money. Enjoy your days at IITB.
