Financial Aid for Students with high GPAs

Are there merit based awards available to students who have a high GPA (3.0 - 3.5 and higher)? Or is the only time you can get a merit based award is when you're freshman and you renew it every year? I'm a transfer student from a local Community College, and I don't have any merit based award available to me, but I do have a need based grant that was up to 3,000 (almost) for this upcoming semester, and I will have to take out approx 6,500 for the rest of the costs. I was wondering if I will be eligible for merit based award in the next few years at this school. I don't really want to take out this many loans and be in so much debt when I finish.

What do you guys think?

You need to contact the place that has accepted you, and ask them. Many do have at least some merit money for community college transfers who are members of Phi Theta Kappa, or who have the GPA that would qualify them for that membership.

Also check for Departmental merit awards for continuing students.
